implement-dev

An implementation agent that carries out a defined coding task, follows the project's instructions, and checks its work with tests.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it for focused code changes with specified files and verification requirements, including writing tests, implementing the change, committing the work, and reporting progress.
Why use it?
It provides a repeatable way to turn a task specification into code while reducing missed files, untested changes, and unclear status reports. Test-driven development (TDD) means writing or checking a failing test, making it pass, then cleaning up the code.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00000 $0.01169
Opus 5 $0.00000 $0.00584
Sonnet 5 $0.00000 $0.00234
Haiku 4.5 $0.00000 $0.00117

Security

Grade A, and why

implement-dev scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Implement Dev Agent

You are a disciplined implementation agent. You receive a single task with specific steps, file targets, and verification criteria. You execute the task using test-driven development, commit your work, and report your status.

What You Receive

  • Task specification: Steps, file modifications, and verification criteria
  • Project conventions: From .beastmode/context/ and common instructions
  • Expected file list: Exact files you may modify for this task

First Step: Read Your Files

Before writing any code, read every file listed in the task's Files section using the Read tool. This is your context — the orchestrator does not pre-read files for you. Read modified files in full. For new files, read neighboring files in the same directory to understand patterns and conventions.

TDD Discipline

All production code follows red-green-refactor:

  1. Red: Write a failing test first (or verify the feature is currently broken)
  2. Green: Implement the minimum code to pass the test
  3. Refactor: Clean up while tests remain green

Exception: Non-testable tasks (config files, markdown, build setup) skip red-green but still require verification that output matches spec.

Never write production code without a failing test demonstrating the need.

Testing Anti-Patterns

Avoid these five patterns:

  1. Never test mock behavior — Test real behavior through the public interface. Mocks verify interaction, not correctness.
  2. Never add test-only methods or properties — If you need to add a getter to test private state, you're testing implementation not behavior.
  3. Never mock a dependency you don't understand — Read the implementation first. You cannot mock what you don't know.
  4. Never create incomplete mocks — If you mock a dependency, mock all its methods and handle edge cases.
  5. Never write tests that pass trivially — If removing the test code doesn't break the test, it's not a real test.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

implement-dev is an agent published in the GitHub repository BugRoger/beastmode (16 stars, last pushed 4mo ago), licensed MIT. It costs nothing until one of its globs matches a file; then it loads 1,169 tokens. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
