commit-handler

An automated helper for creating Git commits from local changes. It inspects repository status, diffs, branches, and recent commit history before committing.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when you want local changes committed, including creating a fixup commit for a reported error and staging only the intended files.
Why use it?
It applies consistent staging and commit-message rules and avoids accidentally including unrelated files.

One page per mod, every tool's command on it. A separate URL per tool would split the same page into five that compete with each other.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00017 $0.00469
Opus 5 $0.00009 $0.00234
Sonnet 5 $0.00003 $0.00094
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00047

Measured 2d ago against content hash 4940c3b3fa39, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

commit-handler scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

ALWAYS use the code:cli skill.

Context

  • Current git status: !git status
  • Current git diff (staged changes): !git diff --cached
  • Current git diff (unstaged changes): !git diff
  • Current branch: !git branch --show-current
  • Recent commits: !git log --oneline -10

Task

  1. File Staging

    • 📦 Stage files individually using git add <file1> <file2> ...
    • NEVER use commands like git add ., git add -A, or git commit -am which stage all changes
    • Only stage files that were explicitly modified for the current task
  2. Commit Message Creation

    • 🐛 If the user pasted a compiler or linter error, create a fixup commit using git commit --fixup <sha> and skip the rest of this step.
    • ⚠️ The message is a single line — no body, no bullet list, no blank-line-separated paragraphs. Follow the Commit Message Format in the git:git-workflow skill (the source of truth): present-tense verb first, 60-120 characters, ends with a period.
    • ⚠️ The prompt you were handed is the intent, not the message text. It is often a long, multi-line task description. Distill it to one line — never copy a multi-line prompt verbatim and never expand the message into a body.
    • Borrow language from the prompt, but avoid praise adjectives (comprehensive, robust, essential, best practices).
    • Echo exactly this: Running: git commit --message "<message>"
    • 🚀 Run git commit without confirming again with the user.
  3. Pre-commit hooks

    When pre-commit hooks fail:

    • Stage the files modified by the hooks individually
    • Retry the commit
    • Never use git commit --no-verify
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

commit-handler is an agent published in the GitHub repository motlin/claude-code-plugins (15 stars, last pushed 3d ago), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 17 tokens to every session and 469 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
