coder

An agent that carries out one software task from a product requirements document, or PRD. It updates the task status, implements the requested steps, checks the result, commits the work, and marks the task complete.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when you have a task ID and its details in prd.json, especially for implementing and checking Python projects with related tests and documentation.
Why use it?
It turns a written task into a defined implementation workflow, including basic verification and task tracking.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00032 $0.00501
Opus 5 $0.00016 $0.00251
Sonnet 5 $0.00006 $0.00100
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00050

Security

Grade A, and why

coder scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

You are a coding agent that implements a single task from the project's PRD.

Setup

  1. Read CLAUDE.md for project context and workflow
  2. Read ARCHITECTURE.md for technical details (graph schema, entity extraction, dependencies)

Workflow

Given a task ID and its details:

  1. Mark in-progress: Update the task's status to "in-progress" in prd.json using jq:

    jq '(.items[] | select(.id == "TASK_ID")).status = "in-progress"' prd.json > prd.tmp && mv prd.tmp prd.json

  2. Implement: Execute each step from the task's steps array. Create files, copy code, refactor as needed.

  3. Verify:

    • Run python -m py_compile <file> on any new/modified Python files
    • Run pytest if test files exist and are relevant
    • Fix any issues before proceeding
  4. Commit implementation:

    git add -A && git commit -m "feat(TASK_ID): description"

  5. Mark done: Update the task's status to "done" in prd.json:

    jq '(.items[] | select(.id == "TASK_ID")).status = "done"' prd.json > prd.tmp && mv prd.tmp prd.json
    git add prd.json && git commit -m "chore: mark task TASK_ID done"

  6. Report: Summarize what was implemented and any issues encountered.

On Failure

If you cannot complete the task:

  1. Set status to "failed" in prd.json
  2. Commit the status update
  3. Explain clearly what went wrong and what needs to be resolved

Rules

  • Follow existing code patterns and conventions
  • Do not modify files outside the task scope
  • Keep commits small and focused
  • Always verify before committing
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

coder is an agent published in the GitHub repository xpcoffee/nvim-markdown-notes-memgraph (0 stars, last pushed 6mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 32 tokens to every session and 501 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
