centralize

A command that copies the local Gnosys SQLite database, a file-based database, into a directory for use as a central server database.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to seed a central Gnosys server from the current machine, create the destination directory, or overwrite an existing database when explicitly requested.
Why use it?
It provides a consistent starting database for a Docker volume or another machine while the local database is still in use.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00000 $0.00844
Opus 5 $0.00000 $0.00422
Sonnet 5 $0.00000 $0.00169
Haiku 4.5 $0.00000 $0.00084

Security

Grade A, and why

centralize scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

gnosys centralize

Copy this machine's local brain (~/.gnosys/gnosys.db) to seed a central server — a Docker volume or another host.

Usage

gnosys centralize --to /path/to/central-gnosys
gnosys centralize --to /path/to/central-gnosys --force

Options

Option Description
--to <dir> Required target directory that receives gnosys.db
--from-local Source is this machine's local brain (default; local is the only current source)
--force Overwrite an existing gnosys.db at the target

Behavior

  1. Calls centralizeDb({ to: opts.to, force: opts.force }).
  2. Uses SQLite's online backup API for a consistent copy (WAL-safe while the source is in use).
  3. Creates the target directory if needed.
  4. Prints source path, target path, size in MB, and GNOSYS_HOME / container volume guidance on success.

Success output

✓ Seeded central brain:
  from: /Users/you/.gnosys/gnosys.db
  to: /path/to/central-gnosys/gnosys.db (12.3 MB)

Run the server against it with GNOSYS_HOME=/path/to/central-gnosys, or mount this dir as the container's /data volume.

Errors

No local brain:

centralize failed: No local brain found at /Users/you/.gnosys/gnosys.db

Target exists without --force:

centralize failed: Target already exists: /path/to/central-gnosys/gnosys.db (use --force to overwrite)

Platform notes

macOS

  • Source brain: ~/.gnosys/gnosys.db (or $GNOSYS_HOME/gnosys.db).
  • Target: any dir (Docker volume mount, NAS path, or another host's .gnosys).
  • Use with gnosys serve --transport http on the central host (e.g. Studio) and gnosys connect from clients.

Linux

  • Same paths as macOS (usually ~/.gnosys or XDG-aware).
  • Systemd timers for remote sync can use the centralized brain.

Windows

  • Source: %APPDATA%\gnosys\gnosys.db or %LOCALAPPDATA%\gnosys\gnosys.db (see getMachineConfigPath / paths.ts).
  • Target: any writable dir for volume or network share (avoid SMB for the live DB; use for seed only).
  • WSL interop: paths may differ; prefer the Windows gnosys for the central if mixing.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

centralize is a command published in the GitHub repository proticom/gnosys (4 stars, last pushed 15d ago), licensed MIT. It costs nothing until one of its globs matches a file; then it loads 844 tokens. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
