sms

A skill for sending SMS messages through African SMS providers, including NimbaSMS. It covers messages, verification codes, message status, contacts, groups, sender names, and related operations when specifications are available.

In plain words
What is it for?
Sending messages, delivering one-time verification codes, checking balances and delivery status, and managing SMS contacts or groups.
Why use it?
It provides a defined process for checking the provider's API requirements before implementing SMS features.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00063 $0.00469
Opus 5 $0.00032 $0.00234
Sonnet 5 $0.00013 $0.00094
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00047

Security

Grade A, and why

sms scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Afro.tools — SMS skill

When this skill activates, use the afrotools MCP server to retrieve the spec for the target provider and capability before writing any implementation code.

Workflow

  1. Identify the provider slug and capability from the user's request.

    • Provider slugs: nimbasms
    • Capabilities: send_message, send_verification, verify_code, get_balance, get_message, list_messages, list_contacts, create_contact, list_groups, list_sendernames, webhook_sms_status
    • If the requested provider has no spec yet:
      1. Call afrotools.request_spec({ provider: "<slug>", capability: "<capability>" }) so the maintainers are notified of the demand.
      2. Tell the user: "The spec for {provider} isn't available yet — I've logged your request. You can track available specs with /afrotools:list."
      3. Stop — don't attempt to implement without a spec.
  2. Call the MCP tool to fetch the spec:

    afrotools.get_spec({ provider: "<slug>", capability: "<capability>" })

  3. Read the spec carefully before writing code:

    • auth — how to authenticate (header name, env var)
    • endpoint — method and URL
    • input_schema — required and optional fields
    • response_schema — what a success response looks like
    • error_schema — how errors are returned
    • gotchasalways surface these to the user
  4. Implement using the canonical_example.ts pattern:

    • Native fetch only — no axios, no node-fetch
    • Credentials from process.env

Important

Never skip the gotchas. They represent real integration failures.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

sms is a skill published in the GitHub repository afrotools/afrotools (20 stars, last pushed 23d ago), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 63 tokens to every session and 469 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
