adev:sync

A skill that copies a project constitution, or shared development rules, into configuration files for different coding assistants.

In plain words
What is it for?
Regenerating files such as CLAUDE.md, AGENTS.md, Cursor rules, and GitHub Copilot instructions from the declared project configuration.
Why use it?
It prevents agent instructions from becoming outdated after the project rules change.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00082 $0.04160
Opus 5 $0.00041 $0.02080
Sonnet 5 $0.00016 $0.00832
Haiku 4.5 $0.00008 $0.00416

Measured 2d ago against content hash f9f64a46360a, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade C, and why

adev:sync scanned grade C with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Hidden instructionshighPrompt injection

Directives inside HTML comments, invisible characters or bidirectional overrides are read by the model and not by the person reviewing the file.

Sync Constitution to Agent Files

Reads .context-index/constitution.md and generates tool-specific agent files based on manifest.yaml sync targets.

Provider Detection

When syncing, detect which AI coding assistant is running:

  • Claude Code: CLAUDE.md (primary)
  • OpenCode: AGENTS.md (primary)
  • Cursor: .cursor/rules/adev.mdc
  • GitHub Copilot: .github/copilot-instructions.md

If multiple providers are used, sync all enabled targets from the manifest.

Process

  1. Read source files:
    • .context-index/constitution.md (required)
    • .context-index/manifest.yaml (required, for sync targets)
    • .context-index/platform-context.yaml (optional, for tech stack summary)

Load Skill Extensions: Load any skill extension instructions before proceeding:

adev skill-ext load --skill sync

If the output is not __NONE__, incorporate it as additional standing instructions that apply to this skill's entire execution. Frame it as: "The following skill extension instructions apply to this invocation (source: installed domain extensions and/or project-level overrides)." If the output is __NONE__, continue normally.

  1. For each sync target in manifest:

    Claude format (CLAUDE.md)

<!-- Synced from .context-index/constitution.md by adev. Do not edit above the User Additions line. -->

    [Full constitution content]

    ## Context Index
This project uses the Agentic Development Framework (adev).
    - Constitution: `.context-index/constitution.md`
    - Manifest: `.context-index/manifest.yaml`
    - Platform: [summary from platform-context.yaml]
    - Available skills: [enumerate every skill under the plugin's `skills/` directory as a comma-separated `/adev:<name>` list — do not hardcode a subset, since the set grows; append "(see `docs/skill-reference.md`)" when that file exists]

    ## Task Management (conditional)
    <!-- BEGIN TASK MANAGEMENT -->
[Read `tasks.backend` from manifest.yaml. If configured:
     - Include the Task Management section from constitution.md.
     - If tasks.backend is "beads", include br command reference.
     - If tasks.backend is "json" (the default), reference the board at
`.context-index/tasks/tasks.json` (rendered to a readable board on demand).
     - If tasks.backend is "file", include the legacy `.context-index/tasks/tasks.md` reference.
     - If constitution has no Task Management section, generate from
the default content matching the configured backend.
If tasks.backend is NOT configured in the manifest, omit this
entire section (no empty block, no placeholder).]
    <!-- END TASK MANAGEMENT -->

    ## Learned Lessons (conditional — see step 3)

    # User Additions

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

adev:sync is a skill published in the GitHub repository agentic-development/adev-plugin (11 stars, last pushed 2d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 82 tokens to every session and 4,160 once invoked, about $0.0004 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it C with 1 finding (hidden instructions). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
