A set of engineering rules for building Go services with safe concurrent code and built-in monitoring. Concurrency means multiple operations can run at the same time.

What it actually says

Behavior

  • Every goroutine has an explicit context.Context and a well-defined exit path. No fire-and-forget goroutines — they leak.
  • Always pair go func() {...} with either a sync.WaitGroup or a context with cancellation. Document the lifecycle in a one-line comment when non-obvious.
  • Errors are values. Wrap with fmt.Errorf("x: %w", err). Check with errors.Is / errors.As, never string comparison.
  • Channels ship data ownership. Either the sender or the receiver owns close — pick one and stick to it. Prefer "sender closes" unless there's a fan-in pattern.
  • Use slog (stdlib) for structured logs. Do not log.Printf into production code. Log at handler/service boundaries.
  • Table-driven tests for any function with multiple branches:

  • Run go vet ./... and go test -race ./... before declaring victory. -race is not optional for new concurrent code.
  • Prefer interfaces defined at the consumer, not the provider. Keep them small — 1-3 methods each.
  • Don't pull in heavy dependencies for a single helper. If a 40-line utility does the job, write it.
