GroupDocs.Comparison-for-Python-via-.NET copilot-instructions.md

A Python library for comparing documents on your own computer or server. It supports formats such as Word, PDF, Excel, and PowerPoint, and creates a new file showing the differences.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to compare two document versions, find edits, and produce a copy with highlighted changes.
Why use it?
It removes the need to compare long documents by hand and makes changes easier to review.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00718 $0.00718
Opus 5 $0.00359 $0.00359
Sonnet 5 $0.00144 $0.00144
Haiku 4.5 $0.00072 $0.00072

Measured 2d ago against content hash 65c9be5bd1e7, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

GroupDocs.Comparison-for-Python-via-.NET copilot-instructions.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

GitHub Copilot instructions — GroupDocs.Comparison for Python via .NET

This repository holds runnable Python examples for GroupDocs.Comparison for Python via .NET, the on-premise document comparison SDK.

GroupDocs.Comparison for Python via .NET is a document comparison API that programmatically compares 50+ document formats (Word, PDF, Excel, PowerPoint and more), detects changes, and produces a result document with highlighted differences.

This repo ships a detailed AGENTS.md (the same reference bundled inside the wheel) with canonical imports, the full API surface, licensing, and troubleshooting. Prefer it as the authoritative reference; this file is a short summary.

Install

pip install groupdocs-comparison-net

PyPI package: groupdocs-comparison-net. Python 3.5+ | Platforms: Windows, Linux, macOS. The wheel bundles the .NET runtime (no separate .NET install on Windows).

Minimal working example

from groupdocs.comparison import Comparer

with Comparer("source.docx") as comparer:
    comparer.add("target.docx")
    comparer.compare("result.docx")
  • Comparer(source) — source path (positional), a stream via document=..., or a folder via folder_path=....
  • comparer.add(target) — add a target; call repeatedly for multi-document comparison.
  • comparer.compare(output[, options]) — run and write the result. Call compare() with no args before get_changes() to inspect changes without writing output.

Set a license (optional; trial mode otherwise):

from groupdocs.comparison import License
License().set_license("path/to/license.lic")

Or auto-apply via export GROUPDOCS_LIC_PATH="path/to/license.lic". Free temporary license: https://purchase.groupdocs.com/temporary-license/

Common pitfalls

  • Package name vs import: install groupdocs-comparison-net, but import from groupdocs.comparison.
  • Native deps on Linux/macOS: apt install libgdiplus libfontconfig1 ttf-mscorefonts-installer (Linux) / brew install mono-libgdiplus (macOS). Windows needs nothing extra.
  • Properties are snake_case (auto-mapped to .NET PascalCase); enums are case-insensitive (FileType.DOCX).
  • Use a with block so native resources are released (or call dispose()).
  • Without a license, output carries an evaluation watermark and is capped at the first two pages.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
