consensus

A structured way to choose between architecture, technology, build-versus-buy, or feature options. It compares alternatives through different viewpoints and produces a recommendation, confidence level, conditions that could change it, and next steps.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to compare API designs, technologies, architectures, or vendor solutions when the choice affects several teams, is difficult to reverse, or carries meaningful risk.
Why use it?
It makes important decisions easier to review by separating agreement from disagreement and making tradeoffs, risks, and assumptions explicit.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00041 $0.00321
Opus 5 $0.00020 $0.00161
Sonnet 5 $0.00008 $0.00064
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00032

Security

Grade A, and why

consensus scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Consensus

Choose among alternatives through structured comparison and stance rotation.

Workflow

  1. Load the comparison procedure and stance-rotation method below.
  2. Select sequential or isolated-subagent mode from the decision's scope and reversibility.
  3. Compare the alternatives, rotate through the required stances, and synthesize a recommendation.

Guardrails

Require genuine differences between views. Do not manufacture disagreement or let one stance contaminate the others when isolated analysis is required.

Output

State the decision, points of agreement and disagreement, a recommendation with low/medium/high confidence, conditions that would change it, and concrete next steps.

Validation

Confirm each stance contributed distinct evidence and the confidence level is proportional to the comparison.

Example

Compare two API approaches, identify their operational and migration costs, then recommend one with explicit reversal conditions.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

consensus is a skill published in the GitHub repository cofin/flow (16 stars, last pushed 2d ago), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 41 tokens to every session and 321 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
