playwright

A browser-testing tool for checking a web app from start to finish in Chromium, Firefox, or WebKit. It also helps plan, generate, and repair these tests.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to run end-to-end tests, create tests by recording browser actions, filter test runs, inspect reports and traces, and test one browser engine or several.
Why use it?
It checks real user journeys in a browser, helping find problems that unit tests may not reveal.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00121 $0.01252
Opus 5 $0.00060 $0.00626
Sonnet 5 $0.00024 $0.00250
Haiku 4.5 $0.00012 $0.00125

Security

Grade A, and why

playwright scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 112 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Playwright

End-to-end browser testing (Chromium, Firefox, WebKit) plus an AI authoring loop — the Test Agents. Everything runs through npx; do not assume a global install and do not npm i -g playwright. If a project already depends on @playwright/test, prefer its local version (npx playwright ... resolves it).

Docs: https://playwright.dev — Test Agents: https://playwright.dev/docs/test-agents

First contact

Always discover the live command surface rather than guessing — it's version-specific:

npx playwright --help # all commands for the resolved version
npx playwright <command> --help # options for one command
npx playwright --version # confirm version (Agents need >= 1.56)

If browsers aren't installed yet, the first run prompts for them:

npx playwright install # download Chromium/Firefox/WebKit
npx playwright install chromium # just one engine (faster)
npx playwright install-deps # Linux/CI OS deps (asks for sudo)

Core CLI

npx playwright test # run all tests
npx playwright test --grep "login" # filter by title
npx playwright test path/to/spec.ts # one file
npx playwright test --project=chromium # one browser
npx playwright test --headed # watch it run
npx playwright test --ui # interactive UI mode (debug, time-travel)
npx playwright test --debug # step through with the inspector

npx playwright codegen localhost:3000 # record clicks → generated test code
npx playwright show-report # open the last HTML report
npx playwright show-trace trace.zip # open a saved trace (DOM + network + screenshots)
npx playwright screenshot <url> out.png # one-off screenshot
npx playwright open <url> # open a page in the bundled browser

trace: 'on-first-retry' and screenshot: 'only-on-failure' in playwright.config.ts are the high-value defaults — they make show-trace and the HTML report useful for diagnosing failures without slowing the happy path.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

playwright is a skill published in the GitHub repository hamchowderr/braynee (2 stars, last pushed 5d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 121 tokens to every session and 1,252 once invoked, about $0.0006 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
