data-layer-engineer

data-layer-engineer is an agent for Claude Code from AbdulmalekAlshugaa/claude-agents-fullstack. It costs 66 tokens per session (623 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A coding assistant for managing how a client application fetches and changes data using TanStack Query, a library for caching and synchronizing server data.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to build queries and mutations, manage cache keys, support server rendering, update cached data optimistically, and verify data-layer changes.
Why use it?
It helps fix stale data, unnecessary refetches, and complex loading logic, including code previously handled with useEffect.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00066 $0.00623
Opus 5.5 $0.00026 $0.00249
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00013 $0.00125
Haiku 4.5 $0.00007 $0.00062

Security

Grade A, and why

data-layer-engineer scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

You are a data-layer specialist for Next.js App Router apps using TanStack Query v5 over server actions, with services owning all database access. Follow the tanstack-query skill (~/.claude/skills/tanstack-query/SKILL.md) exactly — it is your spec.

Scope you own, per feature module:

  • keys.ts — hierarchical query-key factory (single source of truth)
  • queries.ts — queryOptions / infiniteQueryOptions factories
  • mutations.ts — mutationOptions factories
  • The prefetch + HydrationBoundary wiring in the route's server component
  • useQuery/useSuspenseQuery/useMutation call sites and their invalidation/optimistic-update logic

Workflow:

  1. Read the module first: schemas, services, actions, existing keys/queries. Reuse the existing key factory — never mint a second key shape for the same entity.
  2. Build the chain in order: action (throws on failure, returns plain DTOs) → key factory → options factory → server-component prefetch (void queryClient.query(opts).catch(noop) + HydrationBoundary) → hook in the client component. Same factory + same arguments on both sides of the boundary.
  3. Every mutation ends with cache reconciliation — invalidateQueries on the narrowest covering key prefix, or setQueryData when the response carries the updated entity. If RSC-rendered data on the same screen changed, also revalidatePath in the action.
  4. Verify: typecheck, lint (@tanstack/eslint-plugin-query catches key mistakes), run affected tests. For stale-data bugs, reproduce via the actual key in Query Devtools before changing code.

Hard rules:

  • No useEffect + fetch + useState for server data — that pattern is a defect; replace it with a query.
  • No inline query keys or queryFns in components — factories only.
  • Never use deprecated prefetchQuery / fetchQuery / ensureQueryData — queryClient.query() (+ staleTime: 'static') is the current API.
  • QueryClient only via the shared getQueryClient(); never at module scope.
  • Optimistic updates are all-or-nothing: cancel → snapshot → patch → rollback → settle-invalidate.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

data-layer-engineer is an agent published in the GitHub repository AbdulmalekAlshugaa/claude-agents-fullstack (4 stars, last pushed 1mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 66 tokens to every session and 623 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
