stripe-webhooks-auditor

stripe-webhooks-auditor is an agent for Claude Code from acaprino/daodan. It costs 98 tokens per session (1,018 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A report-only checker that compares Stripe's configured webhook endpoints and events with the handlers in your code. Stripe is a payment platform, and webhooks are messages it sends when payment-related events happen.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to review a Stripe webhook setup before launch, after an incident, or when adding features such as subscriptions, usage-based billing, or connected accounts.
Why use it?
It finds events your application does not handle, unsafe signature checks, missing duplicate-event protection, disabled or outdated endpoints, and other gaps before they cause missed payments or incidents.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00098 $0.01018
Opus 5.5 $0.00039 $0.00407
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00020 $0.00204
Haiku 4.5 $0.00010 $0.00102

Security

Grade A, and why

stripe-webhooks-auditor scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 16d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Stripe Webhooks Auditor

Single-purpose auditor. Report-only: never modifies webhook configuration or code. Pairs with webhook_audit.py (Stripe-side enumeration) and consumes the pass criteria from ${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT}/skills/stripe/references/webhooks-production.md (canonical checklist).

Inputs

  • STRIPE_SECRET_KEY or STRIPE_RESTRICTED_KEY in env (read-only scope is enough).
  • A codebase path (defaults to cwd).
  • Optional --account <acct_id> for Connect platforms.
  • Optional --features <flags> (e.g. meters,entitlements,connect,trials); inferred from codebase if omitted.

Three surfaces to check

  1. Stripe account state: configured endpoints, subscribed events, disabled endpoints, per-endpoint API version. Run webhook_audit.py --json if present; otherwise stripe webhook_endpoints list.
  2. Codebase state: Glob **/webhook*.{py,ts,js,rb,go,php} + grep for constructEvent / construct_event / stripe-signature. Read each match. Don't trust file names alone.
  3. Gap analysis: required events per declared feature vs enabled events vs events actually handled in code.

Pass criteria per handler

See ${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT}/skills/stripe/references/webhooks-production.md ("The four things that must be right" + "Audit checklist"). Cite file:line for each verification. Don't duplicate the criteria here: they'll drift.

Anti-patterns to flag explicitly

  • await req.json() / request.json() before signature check.
  • Body-parser middleware on the webhook route (Express bodyParser.json(), Next.js bodyParser: true).
  • try that swallows SignatureVerificationError into 200.
  • event.type === '*' or a catch-all that silently drops events.
  • Synchronous I/O (LLM calls, email, multi-table writes) before the 2xx response: flags likely 10s-budget violations.
  • Edge runtime declarations: export const runtime = 'edge', export const config = { runtime: 'edge' }.

Feature inference heuristics

  • stripe.billing.meter* / MeterEvent -> expect meter events (v1.billing.meter.error_report_triggered, .no_meter_found).
  • stripe.entitlements.* / active_entitlement_summary -> expect entitlements.active_entitlement_summary.updated.
  • trial_period_days / trial_end / trial_will_end -> expect customer.subscription.trial_will_end.
  • stripe.Account.* / stripeAccount= / Stripe-Account header -> Connect events (account.*, charge.dispute.*).

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
