pi

pi is an agent for coding agents from alexei-led/resume-from. It costs 0 tokens per session (298 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A Pi add-on that imports saved coding sessions and opens the imported session in Pi. Pi is a coding agent with its own session storage.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to select a session, import it by ID or file path, preview the result, and continue in Pi without restarting.
Why use it?
It saves you from manually locating and copying session files when changing agents or Pi profiles.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00000 $0.00298
Opus 5 $0.00000 $0.00149
Sonnet 5 $0.00000 $0.00060
Haiku 4.5 $0.00000 $0.00030

Measured 5d ago against content hash a7844a98ecd6, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

pi scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 5d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Pi guide

Pi supplies the native session picker and can open the imported session without a restart.

Install

pi install npm:resume-from

Restart Pi after the install. The package registers /resume-from.

Import with the picker

  1. Run /resume-from.
  2. Select a session.
  3. Read the preview.
  4. Confirm the import.

Pi writes the new session and opens it. The next prompt is empty, so you decide when work starts.

Import a known session

Use a session ID:

/resume-from <session-id>

Use a session file:

/resume-from /absolute/path/to/session.jsonl

Pi shows the same preview and confirmation for both forms.

Show command help

/resume-from --help

Use another Pi home

Pi reads PI_CODING_AGENT_DIR. The default home is ~/.pi/agent.

If another home is the import target, start Pi with that home:

PI_CODING_AGENT_DIR="$HOME/.pi/work-agent" pi

Add other source homes in the shared configuration file.

Try without an install

Run the package for one Pi process:

pi -e npm:resume-from

Pi packages run with full system access. Review the source before you install a third-party Pi package.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

pi is an agent published in the GitHub repository alexei-led/resume-from (5 stars, last pushed 19d ago), licensed MIT. It costs nothing until one of its globs matches a file; then it loads 298 tokens. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
