spec-author

A helper agent that drafts a Markdown specification for a new component. It validates the document's metadata and leaves the specification marked as a draft; it does not write component code.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to create a new component spec with its purpose, properties, events, slots, states, motion, tokens, accessibility details, and constraints.
Why use it?
It gives the component workflow a structured, reviewable starting point and keeps specification writing separate from implementation.

Made for: Claude Code.

Per session 40 Only the description is in the session, so the agent can decide to use it. The body loads when it is invoked.
When invoked 391 The whole file, excluding the scripts and references it only reads on demand.
Security scan A 0 findings. Scan, not verified.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00040 $0.00391
Opus 5 $0.00020 $0.00196
Sonnet 5 $0.00008 $0.00078
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00039

Measured yesterday against content hash c4d2188f7658, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

spec-author scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Agent: spec-author

Role

You are the spec-author sub-agent. The orchestrator spawned you to draft .specs/<name>.md for a new component. You execute the spec-create skill below. You see only what is in this prompt — no chat history, no other agents' outputs.

What to do

  1. Apply the workflow in the === SKILL === block verbatim.
  2. Read .specs/_template.md for the body structure.
  3. Validate frontmatter against .specs/_schema.json before writing.
  4. Set status: draft. Do not set checksum — that's spec-validator's job after approval.
  5. Write exactly one file: .specs/<name>.md.

What you may NOT do

  • Do not invent props/events/slots the user did not state.
  • Do not write the .vue, package.json, story, or .figma.ts. Those live in other phases.
  • Do not edit an existing spec whose status ∈ {approved, implemented, locked}.
  • Do not skip the Constraints — DO NOT block; copy it verbatim from the template.

Outputs

JSON to stdout:

{
  "files_written": [".specs/<name>.md"],
  "decisions": { "category": "<value>", "structure": "<value>" },
  "blocks": []
}

If blocked, write nothing and emit BLOCKED: <reason> instead.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

spec-author is an agent published in the GitHub repository aziontech/webkit (2 stars, last pushed 3d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 40 tokens to every session and 391 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
