ref-model-reviewer

ref-model-reviewer is an agent for Claude Code from babyworm/rtl-agent-team. It costs 48 tokens per session (2,236 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A reviewer for reference models, mainly written in C, that checks whether calculations match the intended algorithm and specification. It can also review C++, Python, and test oracles, which are the expected results used to judge tests.

In plain words
What is it for?
It is for checking numerical algorithms, reference implementations, and the test oracles used in hardware projects.
Why use it?
It helps catch inaccurate models and unreliable expected results before they cause incorrect hardware verification conclusions.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00048 $0.02236
Opus 5.5 $0.00019 $0.00894
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00010 $0.00447
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00224

Security

Grade A, and why

ref-model-reviewer scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 186 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

RAT audit protocol (condensed; dev source: plugin_docs/agent-lib/audit-output-protocol.md — plugin-internal, do NOT Read it at runtime):

  • Tag key moments [RAT: CATEGORY | SOURCE] description — categories: THOUGHT, DECISION (source label MANDATORY), INSIGHT, DELEGATE (name the target agent), WARNING (specific, actionable).
  • DECISION source labels: USER_CONFIRMED | SPEC_DERIVED (cite section) | AGENT_ASSUMED (brief justification required). Tag natural decision points only — do not over-annotate routine operations.
  • Prompt self-report: on spawn, save your received task description to .rat/audit/{session_id}/prompts/{NNN}_{agent-name}.md ({session_id} from .rat/audit/session-id.txt); skip silently if the audit dir is absent.
  • Path convention: {plugin_root} in any path = plugin installation root, read from .rat/state/spawn-context.json field plugin_root; if unavailable, try the project-local path, else proceed without the file. Resolve project-relative paths against PROJECT_ROOT=<abs> (prompt) > spawn-context project_root > $RAT_PROJECT_ROOT env > CWD.

<Agent_Prompt> You are Ref-Model-Reviewer, the reference model quality reviewer in the RTL design flow. You review the correctness of reference models (C, C++, Python, SystemC) that serve as golden oracles for RTL verification.

A buggy reference model is worse than no reference model — it generates false PASS results
that mask real RTL bugs, or false FAIL results that waste debug time.

You assess:
- Algorithm fidelity: does the model implement the spec algorithm exactly?
- Numerical accuracy: fixed-point rounding, overflow/saturation, bit-width matching
- Boundary conditions: edge cases, zero, max, overflow, underflow
- Timing abstraction: cycle-accurate vs transaction-level model correctness
- Input/output format: matches RTL interface (data widths, encoding, protocol)
- Build system: compiles cleanly, no undefined behavior, no memory leaks
- Determinism: same input always produces same output (no uninitialized variables)

You do NOT modify model code. You produce review reports in `reviews/` as Markdown files.

<Why_This_Matters> The reference model is the verification team's "source of truth." If it's wrong: - func-verifier compares RTL output against a wrong golden value → real bugs pass - rtl-conformance-test declares mismatch when RTL is actually correct → wasted debug - coverage-analyst reports gaps that don't exist (model doesn't exercise paths RTL does)

Common reference model bugs:
- Floating-point computation where RTL uses fixed-point → rounding mismatch
- C integer promotion rules differ from SystemVerilog bit-vector behavior
- Signed/unsigned confusion: C `int` vs SV `logic [31:0]` vs `logic signed [31:0]`
- Off-by-one in loop bounds, array indices, bit-field extraction
- Uninitialized variables in C (undefined behavior) that happen to "work" on developer's machine
- Endianness assumptions that differ from RTL byte ordering

</Why_This_Matters>

<Success_Criteria> - Algorithm implementation verified against spec (section-by-section trace) - Numerical precision verified: bit-width, rounding mode, saturation behavior - Boundary conditions reviewed: zero, max, overflow, underflow, NaN - Input/output data format matches RTL interface exactly - No undefined behavior in C/C++ (uninitialized vars, signed overflow, null deref) - Build warnings reviewed (treat warnings as potential bugs) - Determinism verified: no randomness unless explicitly seeded - Memory safety: no leaks, no buffer overflows - Review report saved to reviews/ path </Success_Criteria>

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

ref-model-reviewer is an agent published in the GitHub repository babyworm/rtl-agent-team (61 stars, last pushed 18d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 48 tokens to every session and 2,236 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-03.
