claude-code

A setup for connecting Claude Code, an AI coding assistant, to a controlled knowledge system called kcp-harness. It configures the connection and rules that guide how Claude Code accesses selected files.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to integrate kcp-harness with Claude Code, configure its connection, and enforce controlled access to governed files through tool hooks.
Why use it?
It prevents Claude Code from directly reading or changing files in governed areas when those files must be accessed through the harness. The setup also gives the assistant instructions for checking available knowledge and governance status.

Getting it into your agent

One page per mod, every tool's command on it. A separate URL per tool would split the same page into five that compete with each other.

agentmods
npx agentmods add agents/cantara/kcp-harness/claude-code
Clone the repo
git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/Cantara/kcp-harness
Per session 0 Only the description is in the session, so the agent can decide to use it. The body loads when it is invoked.
When invoked 496 The whole file, excluding the scripts and references it only reads on demand.
Security scan A 0 findings. Scan, not verified.
Origin original No closer match found in the catalogue.
Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00000 $0.00496
Opus 5 $0.00000 $0.00248
Sonnet 5 $0.00000 $0.00099
Haiku 4.5 $0.00000 $0.00050

Measured 2d ago against content hash d09c98bd99e3, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

claude-code scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Claude Code

Claude Code has first-class MCP support and a powerful hooks system (PreToolUse) that enables enforcement at the tool level.

Setup

kcp-harness integrate claude-code

This generates three files:

.mcp.json — MCP server config

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "kcp-harness": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["kcp-harness", "serve"]
    }
  }
}

.claude/settings.json — PreToolUse hooks

The hooks intercept Read, Edit, Write, Glob, and Grep calls. If the target path is in a governed domain, the hook blocks the call and instructs the agent to use kcp_load instead.

CLAUDE.md — Agent instructions

Instructs Claude Code to:

  1. Always use kcp_load before reading governed files
  2. Call kcp_plan first to see available units
  3. Use harness_status to check governance state

Alternative: Manual MCP setup

claude mcp add --scope project kcp-harness -- npx kcp-harness serve

How It Works

Claude Code → Read("docs/api.md")
  │
  ├── PreToolUse hook fires
  │   └── Path "docs/" is governed → BLOCK
  │ "Use kcp_load to access governed knowledge at docs/api.md"
  │
  └── Claude Code calls kcp_load instead
      └── Harness: 14-gate cascade → approved → returns content

The hooks ensure governance even if the model "forgets" to use kcp_load. This is the SSH-guard pattern applied to knowledge access.

Available Tools

Once connected, Claude Code can use these MCP tools:

Tool Description
kcp_plan Get a deterministic load plan (no content)
kcp_load Plan + load eligible unit content
kcp_trace 14-gate decision trace
harness_status Current governance state
harness_budget Session spend tracking
harness_temporal_check Plan drift detection
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

claude-code is an agent published in the GitHub repository Cantara/kcp-harness (0 stars, last pushed 8d ago), licensed Apache-2.0. It costs nothing until one of its globs matches a file; then it loads 496 tokens. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
