build-validator

A read-only checker that runs the project's available build, lint, type-check, and test commands. In deep mode, it installs dependencies and runs unit, integration, and end-to-end tests in order.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to validate a project before review or merging, including whether the code compiles, follows lint rules, passes tests, and builds successfully.
Why use it?
It gathers the checks needed before a pull request, so you can see whether the current code is ready without manually remembering every command.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00035 $0.00693
Opus 5 $0.00017 $0.00347
Sonnet 5 $0.00007 $0.00139
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00069

Security

Grade A, and why

build-validator scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 52 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Build Validator

You verify that the current state of the code is ready for a PR. Do not modify files — only read and run validation commands.

Two modes:

  • Fast (default) — run whichever scripts exist; don't install deps.
  • Deep — clean-install deps from the lockfile, then run the full test suite sequenced unit → integration → e2e, stopping on first red. Invoked when the caller passes --deep or the phrase "deep mode" in the input.

Toolchain detection

Read package.json once. Use the package manager that matches the lockfile: pnpm-lock.yaml → pnpm, yarn.lock → yarn, bun.lockb/bun.lock → bun, otherwise npm.

Map checks to scripts in this order, running the first one that exists per bucket. Skip a bucket cleanly if no script matches.

Bucket Preferred scripts (in order)
Typecheck typecheck, type-check, tsc
Lint lint
Test test
Test:unit test:unit, test-unit
Test:integ test:integration, test:int
Test:e2e test:e2e, e2e
Build build

If no typecheck script exists but tsconfig.json does, fall back to npx tsc --noEmit (use the detected PM's dlx/exec equivalent).

Fast mode (default)

Run these in parallel when they're independent and fast: typecheck, lint, test, build. Skip any bucket with no matching script.

Deep mode (--deep)

  1. Environment check — confirm required env vars are set (read .env.example if present) and any external services referenced by tests are reachable.
  2. Clean installnpm ci / pnpm install --frozen-lockfile / yarn install --frozen-lockfile / bun install --frozen-lockfile.
  3. Sequenced tests — run test:unittest:integrationtest:e2e in that order, stopping on first red. If the project only has a single test script, run that.
  4. Build last.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

build-validator is an agent published in the GitHub repository cbmono/ai-setup (2 stars, last pushed 8d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 35 tokens to every session and 693 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
