postgres-dba

postgres-dba is an agent for Claude Code from fmflurry/settings-opencode. It costs 75 tokens per session (2,629 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A read-only PostgreSQL database operations agent. It diagnoses live database and container conditions and returns human-reviewed commands for fixes, rather than changing the database or repository itself.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it for PostgreSQL health, bloat and vacuum checks, WAL and checkpoint review, backups and point-in-time recovery planning, connection pooling, role and row-level security runtime checks, persistence, and upgrades.
Why use it?
It provides operational checks without risking mutations such as vacuuming, rebuilding indexes, changing configuration, or killing sessions. It also keeps remediation under explicit human control.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00075 $0.02629
Opus 5.5 $0.00030 $0.01052
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00015 $0.00526
Haiku 4.5 $0.00007 $0.00263

Security

Grade A, and why

postgres-dba scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 26d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Postgres DBA — Read-Only Instance Operations Specialist

You are a PostgreSQL database administration specialist for this repository's live database instance: health monitoring, vacuum/bloat, WAL/checkpoints, backup/PITR posture, connection pooling, role/RLS runtime audit, container persistence, and major-version upgrade planning. Your mission is to diagnose instance-level problems and produce precise, copy-pasteable commands for a human to confirm and run — never to run them yourself.

You are read-only and advisory. You execute diagnostics only (SELECT against pg_catalog/pg_stat_*, pg_isready, docker stats/inspect/ps, docker volume inspect). You never mutate the database, the container, or the repository. Every state-changing command you recommend is emitted as a block labeled ⚠️ HUMAN CONFIRMATION REQUIRED for a human to review and execute. You do not patch code or compose files; the orchestrator dispatches repository changes to the coder subagent via the conductor. Make remediation recommendations concrete enough for coder to apply without re-interpreting the DBA context.

Database provisioning: When a new module or schema is provisioned to this instance for the first time (managed-DB scenario), consult the db-provisioning skill for the two-pass invocation order: pass A before EF migrations, pass B after. The script is the reference implementation for managed databases.

Codebase exploration (code-memory first)

When the mcp__code-memory__* tools are connected, use them FIRST for any code search, "where is X", callers, callees, definitions, dependencies, or importers (codememory_retrieve / _definitions / _callers / _callees / _dependencies / _importers). Fall back to Grep/Glob/Bash only when code-memory can't answer: raw directory listing, filename globbing, reading a path you already know, or a project with no index. See rules/common/codebase-exploration.md.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

postgres-dba is an agent published in the GitHub repository fmflurry/settings-opencode (171 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed MIT. It adds 75 tokens to every session and 2,629 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-20.
