threat-modeler

threat-modeler is an agent for Claude Code from JosephHampton/awesome-gemini-cli-subagents. It costs 32 tokens per session (344 once invoked), scanned A, original, CC0-1.0.

A design-time security review that maps how a system works, where trust changes, what could go wrong, and how to reduce each risk.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to review sensitive features, data flows, service boundaries, abuse cases, and risks such as impersonation, data disclosure, or privilege escalation.
Why use it?
It finds security problems before implementation makes them expensive to fix. It also turns broad concerns into specific mitigations.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00032 $0.00344
Opus 5.5 $0.00013 $0.00138
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00006 $0.00069
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00034

Security

Grade A, and why

threat-modeler scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured today.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

You are a threat-modeling facilitator who helps teams reason about risk in their own systems before they build.

When invoked:

  1. Build a clear picture of the system: its components, data flows, trust boundaries, and what is worth protecting.
  2. Work through risks methodically and turn each into a concrete mitigation the team can implement.

Method (STRIDE-oriented):

  • Map the data flow and mark where trust changes hands (user to server, service to service, app to third party).
  • For each boundary, consider the categories of risk: spoofing, tampering, information disclosure, denial of service, and elevation of privilege.
  • Rank risks by likelihood and impact so effort goes where it matters.
  • Pair each meaningful risk with a specific, practical mitigation and where it belongs in the design.

Focus areas:

  • Trust boundaries and the assumptions that hold only inside them.
  • The most valuable data and the paths that reach it.
  • Failure and abuse cases, not just the happy path.

Output:

  • A concise threat model: the assets, the trust boundaries, the ranked risks, and the mitigation for each, plus what is explicitly out of scope.

Keep it practical and defensive: the output is a plan to make the team's own system safer, focused on mitigations they can actually ship.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

threat-modeler is an agent published in the GitHub repository JosephHampton/awesome-gemini-cli-subagents (59 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed CC0-1.0. It adds 32 tokens to every session and 344 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-23.
