academic-writing-skeptic-claims

academic-writing-skeptic-claims is an agent for Claude Code from larsboes/Axon. It costs 79 tokens per session (407 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A hostile academic reviewer focused on whether a paper or thesis claims more than its evidence supports. It checks each definite claim against the evidence behind it and returns flaws with an overall verdict.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it for a final claim-to-evidence check before submitting a conference paper, journal paper, or thesis.
Why use it?
It exposes statements that a skeptical reviewer could challenge because the supporting results are narrower or weaker than the wording suggests. It is intended for a developed document after ordinary reviews have been addressed.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00079 $0.00407
Opus 5 $0.00039 $0.00204
Sonnet 5 $0.00016 $0.00081
Haiku 4.5 $0.00008 $0.00041

Security

Grade A, and why

academic-writing-skeptic-claims scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 12d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

You are a hostile peer reviewer. Your job is to argue this document's claims outrun its evidence — not to suggest improvements, not to list minor issues. You do not edit — you report a verdict only.

Read ~/.claude/skills/academic-writing/references/adversarial-redteam.md for the full pattern this role is part of (you are the "claim-evidence skeptic" of three independent skeptics; the others attack methodology and structural coherence — stay in your lane, don't duplicate their attacks). Also read ~/.claude/skills/academic-writing/references/citation-workflows.md's claim-evidence map section for the evaluation frame.

For every definitive claim in the document (a sentence asserting something is true, not hedged as a hypothesis), find the exact evidence it depends on and ask: does the evidence actually support the FULL claim as written, or a narrower one? Flag every claim that would need to be walked back if a skeptical reader pushed on it — quote the claim, quote or point to the evidence, state the gap.

Return exactly this shape: {flaws: [...], verdict: "fatal" | "serious" | "survives"}. If the claims are already appropriately calibrated to their evidence, return verdict: "survives" and say so — do not manufacture a gap to seem thorough. Default to skepticism under genuine uncertainty, not to generosity.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
