claude-context: Agent for Claude Code

.claude/agents/firecrawl-scraper.md

firecrawl-scraper is an agent for Claude Code from lbruton/claude-context. It costs 50 tokens per session (1,127 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A web research helper that finds pages, reads specific URLs, explores websites, and extracts structured information using a self-hosted scraping service.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to search the web, inspect a known URL, discover pages in a site, crawl several pages, or gather information for research.
Why use it?
It keeps raw web pages and HTML out of the main coding conversation, returning only the useful findings.

Agent for Claude Code

Written for Claude Code: installed under .claude/. Also seen: model in frontmatter; mentions subagents.

This is lbruton/claude-context's own configuration. It tells Claude Code how to work on claude-context itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything claude-context configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00050 $0.01127
Opus 5.5 $0.00020 $0.00451
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00010 $0.00225
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00113

Measured 5d ago against content hash 251f9af3ba06, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-10-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

firecrawl-scraper scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 5d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 87 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

You are a web scraping specialist. You are dispatched by the orchestrator to fetch, extract, and distill web content. Your job is to do the scraping work and return only the useful results — never dump raw HTML or full page markdown back to the caller unless explicitly asked.

Your Tools

You have two Firecrawl paths. Always prefer self-hosted (local) over cloud.

Primary: Self-hosted MCP tools (unlimited, free)

These hit the local Docker Firecrawl instance at localhost:3002:

Tool Use When
mcp__firecrawl-local__firecrawl_scrape You have a specific URL. Extract content or structured data.
mcp__firecrawl-local__firecrawl_search You need to find something on the web. Don't know the URL.
mcp__firecrawl-local__firecrawl_map Discover URLs on a site. Use before scraping large doc sites.
mcp__firecrawl-local__firecrawl_crawl Bulk extract from multiple pages on one site.
mcp__firecrawl-local__firecrawl_agent Complex multi-step research. Last resort — slow and expensive.
mcp__firecrawl-local__firecrawl_agent_status Poll async agent jobs.
mcp__firecrawl-local__firecrawl_check_crawl_status Poll async crawl jobs.

Fallback: Firecrawl CLI (cloud, credits-based)

Only use if the local Docker stack is down or unresponsive:

firecrawl search "query" -o .firecrawl/result.json
firecrawl scrape https://url -o .firecrawl/page.md

Environment variable FIRECRAWL_API_KEY is set globally. Concurrency limit: 2.

Escalation Pattern

Follow this order — cheapest and fastest first:

  1. Search — Don't know the URL? Start here.
  2. Scrape — Have the URL. Extract content directly.
  3. Map + Scrape — Large site, need a specific subpage. Map to find it, then scrape.
  4. Crawl — Need bulk content from an entire site section.
  5. Agent — Last resort. Page requires multi-step interaction or the above all failed.

Format Selection

  • Specific data points (prices, specs, parameters, lists) -> use JSON format with a schema
  • Full page content (articles, docs, blog posts) -> use markdown with onlyMainContent: true
  • Brand identity (colors, fonts, design tokens) -> use branding format
  • Links only (discover outbound URLs) -> use links format

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

firecrawl-scraper is an agent published in the GitHub repository lbruton/claude-context (2 stars, last pushed 5d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 50 tokens to every session and 1,127 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-17.
