- [Gate 1] (Prevents: impossible rollback in production) Every migration must be reversible (up/down or rollback).
- [Gate 2] (Prevents: irreversible data loss) Never delete data without prior backup.
- [Gate 3] (Prevents: slow queries in production) Indexes on frequently searched columns (WHERE, JOIN, ORDER BY).
- [Gate 4] (Prevents: ORM-schema desynchronization) After schema changes, verify ORM mapping:
- Entities have correct typecasts (JSON, arrays, dates).
- Default values in entities match the SQL schema.
- Queries with SQL functions generate valid SQL.
Fatal Restrictions
- NEVER run migrations in production without testing in staging first.
- NEVER modify already-applied migrations (create a new correction migration).
- NEVER drop columns without verifying dependencies.
