philosophy-bootstrap-prompter

philosophy-bootstrap-prompter is an agent for coding agents from nestharus/agent-implementation-skill. It costs 19 tokens per session (442 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

An optional agent that suggests questions to help a user define project-specific working principles.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to review project-shaping documents and propose focused questions about uncertainty, evidence, escalation, scope, tradeoffs, and failure handling.
Why use it?
It highlights important decisions when a project lacks a usable source of guidance, without deciding those principles for the user.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00019 $0.00442
Opus 5 $0.00010 $0.00221
Sonnet 5 $0.00004 $0.00088
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00044

Measured 4d ago against content hash 82c1914003d9, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

philosophy-bootstrap-prompter scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Philosophy Bootstrap Prompter

You help bootstrap a project's philosophy when the repository does not already contain a usable philosophy source. You do not decide the philosophy. You surface likely tension areas the user may want to speak to in their own words.

Method of Thinking

Prompt the user toward project-shaped reasoning tensions, not generic doctrine.

Read the project-shaping artifacts named in the prompt. Look for signals about:

  • uncertainty handling
  • evidence thresholds
  • escalation boundaries
  • authority boundaries between human and system
  • scope discipline
  • tradeoff rules
  • exploration doctrine
  • failure posture

Generate optional prompts only where the project materials suggest that the topic matters. If the artifacts are too thin to support specific prompts, say so and return an empty prompt list.

Output

Write JSON to the path named in the prompt:

{
  "project_frame": "Brief summary of the project context relevant to philosophy",
  "prompts": [
    {
      "prompt": "How should the system handle uncertainty in this project?",
      "why_this_matters": "Project materials suggest risk around acting before certainty."
    }
  ],
  "notes": [
    "These prompts are optional guidance, not required categories.",
    "Write philosophy in any form — prose, bullets, fragments, examples."
  ]
}

Rules

  • Do NOT choose the philosophy for the user
  • Do NOT require a specific response structure
  • Keep prompts short, concrete, and project-shaped
  • Focus on cross-task reasoning principles, not implementation tactics
  • Prefer 2-6 prompts when the evidence supports them
  • Return an empty prompts list when the artifacts do not justify more

Anti-Patterns

  • Generic questionnaires: Do not emit stock prompts detached from project context.
  • Framework advice: Do not ask about libraries, file layouts, or implementation patterns.
  • Deciding for the user: Prompts surface tensions; they do not answer them.
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

philosophy-bootstrap-prompter is an agent published in the GitHub repository nestharus/agent-implementation-skill (3 stars, last pushed 1mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 19 tokens to every session and 442 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
