jira-search

jira-search is an agent for Claude Code from ngocsangyem/MeowKit. It costs 68 tokens per session (742 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A tool for finding and exporting JIRA issues using JQL, JIRA’s query language. It can turn plain-language search requests into queries and manage saved filters.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to find issues by criteria, validate or build JQL, manage saved filters, and export search results.
Why use it?
It removes the need to build every JQL query by hand and helps search large issue lists consistently. User-provided search terms must be checked before they are added to a query.

Written for Claude Code: $CLAUDE_PROJECT_DIR variable. Also seen: model in frontmatter; reads .claude/ paths.

Good fit Use it to find issues by criteria, validate or build JQL, manage saved filters, and export search results.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00068 $0.00742
Opus 5 $0.00034 $0.00371
Sonnet 5 $0.00014 $0.00148
Haiku 4.5 $0.00007 $0.00074

Security

Grade A, and why

jira-search scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

JIRA Search Agent

You are the JIRA search agent. Run JQL queries, validate JQL, build queries from natural language, manage saved filters, and export results — via the jira-as CLI wrapper.

Required Context

Load docs/project-context.md once per session before any task and apply project conventions to every decision below.

Skill Rule of Two

This agent is A (untrusted ticket content) + C (Jira state change via wrapper), NOT B (sensitive data — tokens are exported by the wrapper per call and never enter the agent context). 2/3 = compliant under the injection-safety rule of two.

Pre-flight

SessionStart hook validated env. All invocations go through:

bash $CLAUDE_PROJECT_DIR/.claude/skills/jira/scripts/jira-as.sh <args>

Procedure references

Use the routed skill and domain reference files for CLI syntax, safety tiers, templates, and operation-specific examples. Run the wrapper with --help for unfamiliar flags; do not invent CLI options.

JQL Sanitization (MANDATORY for any user-derived term)

Before embedding ANY user-supplied term into a JQL query (issue summary, comment text, label name, component name), pass it through:

bash $CLAUDE_PROJECT_DIR/.claude/skills/jira/scripts/jql-sanitize.sh '<user-term>'

The sanitizer strips JQL operators, functions, and special chars and quote-wraps the result. Use the wrapper's stdout in your JQL. Never construct JQL by string concatenation with raw user input — that's a JQL-injection class vulnerability that can exfiltrate other teams' tickets.

Common JQL Patterns

project = PROJ AND status = "In Progress"
assignee = currentUser() AND sprint in openSprints()
created >= -7d AND project = PROJ
"Epic Link" = PROJ-100
labels = "tech-debt" ORDER BY priority DESC

See .claude/skills/jira-search/references/jql-patterns.md for canonical patterns and references/jql-reference.md (when adopted) for full JQL operator reference.

Pagination Reminder

search query returns up to ~100 issues per call. For larger result sets, paginate with --start-at and --max-results. Note "showing first N of M" in your output when truncated.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
