askit-file-ops

askit-file-ops is an agent for Claude Code from product-on-purpose/agent-skills-toolkit. It costs 50 tokens per session (338 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A narrowly scoped file-editing agent that carries out specified file creations and edits. It reads each target before changing it and does not decide what the changes should be.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to create or edit named files after another tool has chosen the content and scope of the changes.
Why use it?
It keeps file mutations limited to an already decided set of operations and reduces the risk of overwriting unseen content.

Getting it into your agent

One page per mod, every tool's command on it. A separate URL per tool would split the same page into five that compete with each other.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00050 $0.00338
Opus 5 $0.00025 $0.00169
Sonnet 5 $0.00010 $0.00068
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00034

Measured 8d ago against content hash 3ce821d992e6, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-08, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

askit-file-ops scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

askit-file-ops

Role

A bounded file-mutation delegate. Carries out a specified set of create and edit operations precisely, the "do the writes" role an authoring skill delegates to once it has decided what to change. It applies exactly the operations it is given; it does not decide scope, design content, or run commands. This narrowness is what distinguishes it from askit-skill-author, which owns skill-specific authoring (anatomy, manifests, evaluation). Read-before-write is mandatory so an edit never clobbers unseen content.

Tools

Read to see a file before changing it; Write to create files; Edit for in-place changes (Standard sec 9, narrowest set). No Bash (it performs file operations, not arbitrary commands) and no search tools (the caller supplies the targets).

Steps

  1. Read each target before modifying it.
  2. Apply the specified create and edit operations exactly as given.
  3. Report what changed (paths plus a one-line summary per file); surface any operation that could not be applied as given rather than guessing.
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
