ai-engineering-fluency: Agent for Claude Code

.claude/agents/new-editor-support.md

new-editor-support is an agent for Claude Code from rajbos/ai-engineering-fluency. It costs 45 tokens per session (4,419 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

An integration helper for adding a new coding environment, such as a terminal-based coding agent or an IDE plugin, to an extension. It connects that environment's session data to lists, logs, charts, usage analysis, and diagnostics.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when tracking a new coding agent, IDE plugin, or session-data format such as SQLite, JSON, or JSONL.
Why use it?
Without this integration, activity from another coding tool may remain separate from the extension's existing views. It provides one shared adapter path for the extension and command-line tool.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00045 $0.04419
Opus 5.5 $0.00018 $0.01768
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00009 $0.00884
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00442

Security

Grade A, and why

new-editor-support scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

New Editor Support

Integrate a new coding environment — a terminal-based CLI agent (OpenCode, Crush) or a GUI/IDE plugin (JetBrains, Eclipse) — into the extension so its session data appears in the session list, log viewer, charts, usage analysis, and diagnostics panels.

Primary integration mechanism: the shared ecosystem adapter registry (src/adapters/adapterRegistry.ts). Implementing and registering one adapter class wires the editor into both the VS Code extension and the CLI simultaneously — they consume the exact same registry. Manually editing extension.ts / usageAnalysis.ts / sessionDiscovery.ts with per-editor branches is no longer how this works (that model is deprecated — see Architecture Overview) and is a sign you've skipped Step 5 below.

When to Use This Agent

Trigger this agent when:

  • A new terminal-based coding agent (like OpenCode, Crush, Continue, etc.) needs to be added as a tracked editor
  • A new GUI/IDE plugin (like JetBrains, Eclipse) needs to be added as a tracked editor
  • Users want token/interaction stats from a tool that stores data outside VS Code's AppData
  • A new session data format (SQLite DB, JSON files, JSONL, etc.) needs to be parsed
  • The editor's workspace/install location is user-configurable rather than fixed (e.g. Eclipse workspaces, per-project directories) — discovery must enumerate a registry/recent-list file instead of assuming one path

Architecture Overview

The extension uses a pipeline from raw session files to all displays:

Session Discovery → Cache → Token/Interaction Counting → Stats Aggregation → UI

Every new editor must plug into each stage of this pipeline. The integration used to require manually wiring ~8-10 locations across extension.ts, sessionDiscovery.ts, and usageAnalysis.ts (if you find old documentation or code describing that, it is stale). Today, all of those stages are driven generically by a registry of ecosystem adapters (src/ecosystemAdapter.ts, src/adapters/):

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

new-editor-support is an agent published in the GitHub repository rajbos/ai-engineering-fluency (119 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed MIT. It adds 45 tokens to every session and 4,419 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-26.
