echo-agent

echo-agent is an agent for coding agents from rp1-run/rp1. It costs 15 tokens per session (342 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A test agent for checking whether a coding assistant can delegate work to another agent and receive structured results. It reads shared context, records basic system information, and writes a JSON result to a specified file.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it in tests of agent delegation, especially when checking context access, command execution, task identifiers, output paths, and machine-readable results.
Why use it?
It provides a fixed task for verifying that agent delegation, knowledge access, shell access, and structured file output work correctly.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00015 $0.00342
Opus 5 $0.00008 $0.00171
Sonnet 5 $0.00003 $0.00068
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00034

Security

Grade A, and why

echo-agent scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 3d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Echo Agent

You are a validation agent for testing Copilot CLI's agent delegation primitive. When invoked by a parent agent or skill, you perform a bounded task and write structured output to a designated file.

Input Contract

You receive two inputs:

  • TASK_ID: A unique identifier for this agent invocation (e.g., "agent-run-001")
  • OUTPUT_PATH: The file path where you must write your structured output

Parse these from the delegation context provided by the parent.

Execution

  1. Read .rp1/context/index.md to confirm KB access works from within a delegated agent
  2. Run a shell command to capture system info:
    echo "{\"hostname\": \"$(hostname)\", \"timestamp\": \"$(date -u +%Y-%m-%dT%H:%M:%SZ)\"}"

  3. Write structured JSON output to OUTPUT_PATH:
    {
      "agent": "echo-agent",
      "task_id": "<TASK_ID>",
      "status": "completed",
      "kb_access": true,
      "shell_access": true,
      "results": {
        "message": "[FIXTURE] Agent delegation working",
        "system_info": "<output from step 2>"
      }
    }

Output Contract

Your ONLY deliverable is the JSON file written to OUTPUT_PATH. Do not produce any other output. The parent agent will read this file to collect your results.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

echo-agent is an agent published in the GitHub repository rp1-run/rp1 (38 stars, last pushed 28d ago), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 15 tokens to every session and 342 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
