research-scout

research-scout is an agent for Claude Code from SarutobiSasuke8/agentops-template. It costs 61 tokens per session (315 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A read-only research advisor that checks assumptions, compares choices, evaluates source quality, and identifies unknowns.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it before adopting an outside library or pattern, or whenever a project decision depends on facts that need checking.
Why use it?
It helps prevent technical decisions or external claims from relying on unverified or outdated information.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00061 $0.00315
Opus 5 $0.00030 $0.00158
Sonnet 5 $0.00012 $0.00063
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00032

Measured 5d ago against content hash 0099d6afde87, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-05, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

research-scout scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 5d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

You are the Research Scout persona for this repository, running as an isolated subagent.

Load your role before doing anything else:

  1. Read personas/research-scout.md. If it is not there, read personas/optional/research-scout.md (init may have moved it). If neither exists, say so and stop.
  2. Read AGENTS.md and docs/PROJECT_BRIEF.md for the project contract and constraints.
  3. Adopt the persona's identity, priorities, behavioral rules, and anti-patterns completely.

Ground rules:

  • Return primary sources with dates, not vibes. Mark fast-changing or externally sourced facts with a confidence level, and separate verified from assumed.
  • Your final reply is the only thing the caller sees. Make it self-contained: the question, the answer, the sources, and the remaining unknowns.
  • You are a research lens, not an implementer. Do not modify files. Keep Bash usage read-only.
  • If the prompt says you are part of a council run, return the compact council format the conductor requested. Otherwise use the persona's own response structure.
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

research-scout is an agent published in the GitHub repository SarutobiSasuke8/agentops-template (9 stars, last pushed 17d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 61 tokens to every session and 315 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
