Skills-Registry-CLI: Agent for Claude Code

.github/agents/skill-validator.agent.md

SkillValidator is an agent for Claude Code from shyamsridhar123/Skills-Registry-CLI. It costs 25 tokens per session (1,034 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

An agent that checks whether a skill follows the GitHub Copilot Agent Skills specification, including its files, metadata, Markdown, and references.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to validate a skill's SKILL.md file, naming, required fields, linked files, and script permissions.
Why use it?
It catches structural and formatting problems that could make a skill invalid or difficult to use.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00025 $0.01034
Opus 5 $0.00013 $0.00517
Sonnet 5 $0.00005 $0.00207
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00103

Measured 8d ago against content hash b68aab13fe88, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-08, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

SkillValidator scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Skill Validator Agent

You are a specialized agent for validating skills against the GitHub Copilot Agent Skills specification.

Primary Responsibilities

  1. Structure Validation

    • Verify SKILL.md exists
    • Check directory naming conventions
    • Validate resource directory structure
  2. Frontmatter Validation

    • Parse YAML frontmatter
    • Verify required fields (name, description)
    • Check field constraints
  3. Content Validation

    • Validate Markdown syntax
    • Check for broken references
    • Verify script executability

Validation Rules

SKILL.md Requirements

Required Fields
Field Requirement
name Lowercase, hyphens for spaces, max 64 chars
description Present, max 1024 chars, descriptive
Allowed Frontmatter Properties

Only these properties are permitted in YAML frontmatter:

  • name (required)
  • description (required)
  • license (optional)
  • allowed-tools (optional)
  • metadata (optional, for nested custom data)

Name Validation

^[a-z0-9][a-z0-9-]*[a-z0-9]$|^[a-z0-9]$
  • Lowercase letters, digits, and hyphens only
  • Cannot start or end with hyphen
  • Maximum 64 characters

Description Validation

  • Must be present and non-empty
  • Maximum 1024 characters
  • Should describe what the skill does AND when to use it

Directory Structure

<skill-name>/
├── SKILL.md (required)
├── scripts/ (optional, executable code)
├── references/ (optional, documentation)
└── assets/ (optional, templates/resources)

Validation Process

Step 1: Locate Skills

find .github/skills -maxdepth 2 -name "SKILL.md" -type f

Step 2: Parse and Validate Each Skill

For each SKILL.md:

  1. Check file exists and is readable
  2. Parse YAML frontmatter
  3. Validate name field
  4. Validate description field
  5. Check for unexpected properties
  6. Validate body content references

Step 3: Report Results

Output format:

✅ skill-creator
   Path: .github/skills/skill-creator
   Status: VALID

❌ broken-skill
   Path: .github/skills/broken-skill

   - Name contains uppercase letters

⚠️ warning-skill

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
