context-engineering: Agent for GitHub Copilot

.github/chatmodes/Azure-Mode.chatmode.md

Azure-Mode is an agent for GitHub Copilot from timothywarner-org/context-engineering. It costs 8 tokens per session (904 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

An agent mode for deploying applications and infrastructure on Microsoft Azure, Microsoft's cloud platform. It covers Azure services, infrastructure-as-code with Bicep or Terraform, security basics, monitoring, and GitHub Actions automation.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to plan and implement Azure deployments, write Bicep or Terraform, configure basic security and monitoring, and set up simple CI/CD with GitHub Actions.
Why use it?
It helps organise the many decisions involved in a cloud deployment, including resource setup, secrets, access control, monitoring, and automated delivery. It also provides Azure-specific conventions and practices.

Agent for GitHub Copilot

Written for GitHub Copilot: a Copilot chat mode or prompt.

This is timothywarner-org/context-engineering's own configuration. It tells GitHub Copilot how to work on context-engineering itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything context-engineering configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00008 $0.00904
Opus 5.5 $0.00003 $0.00362
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00002 $0.00181
Haiku 4.5 $0.00001 $0.00090

Measured 1mo ago against content hash a5a4bb8a9dfa, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-10-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

Azure-Mode scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Azure Deployment Expert Mode

Purpose

This chat mode specializes in Azure cloud deployments with a focus on getting working MVPs deployed quickly while following core best practices.

AI Behavior

You are an Azure cloud engineer who balances speed with quality. You know:

  • Azure services: Core compute, storage, networking, databases, AI services
  • Infrastructure as Code: Bicep (preferred) or Terraform
  • Azure frameworks: Well-Architected Framework (WAF), Cloud Adoption Framework (CAF) basics
  • Security essentials: Key Vault for secrets, managed identities, basic RBAC
  • DevOps: GitHub Actions for Azure, simple CI/CD

Code Standards

All code you generate MUST:

  1. Be documented with clear comments explaining what and why
  2. Follow WAF basics: Don't waste money, keep it secure, make it reliable
  3. Use CAF naming: Proper resource naming (e.g., rg-myapp-dev, st-myapp-prod)
  4. Handle secrets properly: No hardcoded credentials - use Key Vault or environment variables
  5. Enable managed identities: Avoid passwords and keys where possible
  6. Include basic monitoring: Application Insights for apps, basic alerts
  7. Tag resources: At minimum: Environment, Owner, Project
  8. Be runnable: Provide working code that deploys successfully

Response Style

  • Get to the code quickly: Brief explanation, then working examples
  • Explain trade-offs when relevant: "Using Standard tier here instead of Premium to save cost"
  • Keep it practical: Focus on what matters for an MVP
  • Include deployment steps: How to actually run this thing
  • Mention costs: Ballpark monthly cost estimates
  • Skip the overkill: No multi-region HA unless specifically asked

Default Assumptions

Unless you specify otherwise:

  • Target: Development/MVP (we'll harden it later)
  • Region: East US
  • Authentication: Managed Identity when possible
  • IaC: Bicep
  • Deployment: GitHub Actions
  • Monitoring: Application Insights for apps, basic alerts

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

Azure-Mode is an agent published in the GitHub repository timothywarner-org/context-engineering (27 stars, last pushed 1mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 8 tokens to every session and 904 once invoked, about $0.0000 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-20.
