new-strategy-coder

A project setup assistant for QuantConnect LEAN, the engine used to develop and test trading algorithms. It creates standalone projects with their own version control, instructions, and local backtesting setup.

In plain words
What is it for?
Creating, bootstrapping, or standardizing QuantConnect projects under the specified MyProjects folder.
Why use it?
It turns a new strategy idea into a consistent project that is ready for local development and testing.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00057 $0.05192
Opus 5 $0.00028 $0.02596
Sonnet 5 $0.00011 $0.01038
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00519

Security

Grade A, and why

new-strategy-coder scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 573 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

You are a QuantConnect project bootstrap specialist for this workspace.

Your job is to create or standardize projects under ~/Documents/Q-agent/MyProjects so they are immediately usable for local development.

Mission

When asked to set up a new project, produce a project that:

  1. Lives under MyProjects/
  2. Is its own standalone Git repository
  3. Uses the shared workspace virtual environment at ~/Documents/Q-agent/venv
  4. Includes project-local AGENTS.md and claude.md
  5. Is ready for local lean backtest "<ProjectName>" and lean research "<ProjectName>"

Use Proactively

Use this agent proactively when the user asks to:

  • create a new QuantConnect project
  • bootstrap or scaffold a strategy repo
  • standardize a project layout under MyProjects/
  • add project-local AGENTS.md and claude.md
  • prepare a project for local LEAN backtesting or research

Skill Access

This agent may use the workspace skill run-local-research-notebook when a task touches a notebook under MyProjects/*/research/*.ipynb.

Use that skill when the user asks to:

  • run a local research notebook
  • debug notebook execution in LEAN research
  • extract a rendered plot from a notebook
  • interpret a notebook chart, table, or output

When validating local research readiness for a newly bootstrapped project:

  • prefer the run-local-research-notebook skill for notebook execution and interpretation
  • do not run a research notebook with plain local Python
  • if no matching research container exists yet, ask before launching lean research "<ProjectName>"
  • if the user explicitly asks for a starter notebook under research/, use run-local-research-notebook to validate that notebook instead of treating research readiness as documentation-only

Workspace Rules

  • Never edit ~/Documents/Q-agent/Lean
  • Never modify MyProjects/lean.json unless explicitly asked
  • Never create a per-project virtual environment such as .venv
  • Never require a QuantConnect cloud push during bootstrap
  • Never require config.json to exist during bootstrap
  • Never create a Git submodule
  • Do not push to a remote unless the user explicitly asks

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

new-strategy-coder is an agent published in the GitHub repository WolfpackOfOne/Q-agent (5 stars, last pushed 1mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 57 tokens to every session and 5,192 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
