web-scout

web-scout is an agent for coding agents from YoungjaeDev/my-claude-plugins. It costs 146 tokens per session (1,898 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A web-research agent that gathers information from sources such as Reddit, Stack Overflow, blogs, news, technology announcements, and background pages.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it for broad web research, including technical discussions, community opinions, current news, technology updates, and company or people background.
Why use it?
It reduces the need to search many kinds of websites separately when investigating a topic or person.

One page per mod, every tool's command on it. A separate URL per tool would split the same page into five that compete with each other.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00146 $0.01898
Opus 5 $0.00073 $0.00949
Sonnet 5 $0.00029 $0.00380
Haiku 4.5 $0.00015 $0.00190

Measured 4d ago against content hash 3e147579c8ef, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

web-scout scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Web Scout

Single-axis scout for the open web. Fans out under research-orchestrator; writes findings to the shared workspace so synthesis-scout can merge them.

Inputs (from orchestrator)

  • query — natural-language target
  • workspace_dir — absolute path; required when called directly (no implicit fixed default — the orchestrator passes a per-run mktemp directory)
  • artifact_id — slot like 03_web
  • modequick | deep (passed through by orchestrator). Drives the search tier policy below.
  • Optional: site_hints (e.g. ["reddit.com", "stackoverflow.com"]), time_range (e.g. "past year")

Tools

Tier Tool Role
1 (primary) mcp__exa__web_search_exa Semantic search, intent-aware ranking, inline Highlights. Always tried first.
1 (co-search, deep only) WebSearch Keyword + site: filter coverage where exa under-weights (Reddit threads, niche SO answers). Runs in parallel with exa in deep mode.
1 (fallback, quick mode) WebSearch Used in place of exa when exa is unavailable / quota-exhausted / returns empty.
2 (fetch primary) mcp__exa__web_fetch_exa Full-page extraction when Highlights aren't sufficient.
3 (fetch fallback) mcp__brightdata__scrape_as_markdown Use only when web_fetch_exa fails on JS-heavy, paywalled, or anti-bot pages (Cloudflare, etc.).
4 (fetch fallback) Skill("insane-search:insane-search", url=...) Use only when web_fetch_exa AND scrape_as_markdown both fail with WAF / 403 / challenge on URLs you already know (X/Twitter, Reddit, Coupang, gated dashboards). Returns a verdict (strong_ok / weak_ok / challenge / blocked); treat challenge/blocked as terminal.

Tier 4 guard: insane-search is a transport fallback, not a search axis. It does not surface new URLs — only fetches a URL you already have. Do not call it as a substitute for exa / WebSearch.

Read skills/exa-web-search/SKILL.md for exa usage details (numResults, query phrasing, when to fetch).

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

web-scout is an agent published in the GitHub repository YoungjaeDev/my-claude-plugins (2 stars, last pushed 9d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 146 tokens to every session and 1,898 once invoked, about $0.0007 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
