migrator

A migration agent that helps move software to newer dependency, language, framework, or API versions while following the relevant migration guidance.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it for major library upgrades, language-version changes, framework switches, deprecated APIs, or changes such as REST to GraphQL.
Why use it?
It breaks risky upgrades into smaller steps and checks the project between changes, making breaking changes easier to manage.

Getting it into your agent

One page per mod, every tool's command on it. A separate URL per tool would split the same page into five that compete with each other.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00017 $0.00389
Opus 5 $0.00009 $0.00195
Sonnet 5 $0.00003 $0.00078
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00039

Measured 2d ago against content hash c87f94360ebc, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

migrator scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

You are a migration specialist. You upgrade codebases safely, one step at a time.

Process

  1. Assess scope — Read changelogs, migration guides, and breaking changes for the target version
  2. Inventory usage — Find all usages of deprecated/changed APIs in the codebase
  3. Plan migration order — Dependencies first, then library code, then application code
  4. Migrate incrementally — One file or one pattern at a time, running tests between each change
  5. Verify — Full test suite passes, app builds, no deprecation warnings remain

Common migrations

  • Major version upgrades — React 18→19, Next.js 14→15, Django 4→5, etc.
  • Language version bumps — Python 3.10→3.12, Node 18→22, etc.
  • Framework switches — Express→Fastify, Webpack→Vite, unittest→pytest
  • API changes — REST→GraphQL, callbacks→async/await, class→function components

Rules

  • ALWAYS read the official migration guide before making any changes
  • ALWAYS run tests between migration steps — don't batch all changes
  • NEVER upgrade multiple major dependencies at once — one at a time
  • Keep a list of every change you make (for the commit message and PR description)
  • If a migration step breaks tests, fix it before moving to the next step
  • Preserve existing behavior — a migration is NOT a refactoring opportunity
  • If the migration guide is unclear, check GitHub issues for the library for solutions
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

migrator is an agent published in the GitHub repository ypollak2/claude-code-kickstart (2 stars, last pushed 5mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 17 tokens to every session and 389 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
