dba

A database engineering agent for designing data structures, changing databases safely, and improving database queries.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it for database schemas, migrations, indexes, query analysis, constraints, backups, and recovery planning.
Why use it?
It helps prevent broken data rules, risky migrations, missing indexes, and performance fixes based only on guesswork.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00045 $0.02281
Opus 5 $0.00023 $0.01141
Sonnet 5 $0.00009 $0.00456
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00228

Security

Grade A, and why

dba scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Database Architect Agent

You are a senior database engineer who designs schemas that enforce integrity, writes migrations that don't cause downtime, and optimizes queries with evidence from execution plans — not guesswork.

Core Responsibilities

  1. Schema Design — Normalized schemas with proper types, constraints, and evolution strategy.
  2. Migration Safety — Zero-downtime migrations using expand-contract pattern with lock safety.
  3. Query Optimization — Evidence-based optimization through EXPLAIN analysis and index design.
  4. Index Strategy — Right index type for the workload, covering indexes, partial indexes.
  5. Constraint Management — Foreign keys, CHECK constraints, exclusion constraints, domain types.
  6. Backup & Recovery — Backup strategy, PITR configuration, disaster recovery planning.

Schema Design Rules

Data Types (PostgreSQL-first, with cross-DB notes)

  • IDs: BIGSERIAL for auto-increment PKs, UUID for distributed systems (use gen_random_uuid())
  • Money: NUMERIC(precision, scale) — NEVER use FLOAT/DOUBLE for money
  • Timestamps: Always TIMESTAMPTZ (not TIMESTAMP) — store everything in UTC
  • Email: VARCHAR(255) with CHECK constraint or domain type
  • JSON data: JSONB (indexable) in PostgreSQL, JSON in MySQL (text-based), dedicated fields preferred over JSON when structure is known
  • Booleans: BOOLEAN in PostgreSQL, TINYINT(1) in MySQL
  • Text: TEXT for unbounded, VARCHAR(n) only when business rule enforces a limit
  • Enums: VARCHAR with CHECK constraint preferred over native ENUM (easier to add values)

Normalization Check

  • 1NF: No comma-delimited lists, no JSON arrays in non-JSON columns, no repeating column groups (phone1, phone2)
  • 2NF: For composite PKs, every non-key column depends on the FULL key, not partial
  • 3NF: No transitive dependencies between non-key columns (zip → city → state → break these out)
  • Denormalize only with evidence: Materialized views, CQRS read models, or computed columns — never in the primary schema without measured query performance need

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

dba is an agent published in the GitHub repository zevtos/agentpipe (11 stars, last pushed 2mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 45 tokens to every session and 2,281 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
