CRUX-Compress: Agent for Claude Code

.cursor/agents/crux-memory-remember.md

crux-memory-remember is an agent for Claude Code, Cursor from zotoio/CRUX-Compress. It costs 49 tokens per session (855 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A memory-creation agent for CRUX that creates a stored memory from content and details supplied by its parent command. It checks for conflicts or size limits, rebuilds the index, and returns the new memory's details.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to save an isolated decision, fact, lesson, or other project memory supplied by the user or a parent workflow.
Why use it?
It turns important project knowledge into a searchable record without requiring the memory workflow to be part of a specification or completed-task review.

Agent for Claude CodeCursor

Written for Cursor and Claude Code: installed under .cursor/, but also a Claude Code subagent (agents/*.md). Also seen: model in frontmatter; mentions AGENTS.md.

This is zotoio/CRUX-Compress's own configuration. It tells Claude Code and Cursor how to work on CRUX-Compress itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything CRUX-Compress configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00049 $0.00855
Opus 5.5 $0.00020 $0.00342
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00010 $0.00171
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00085

Security

Grade A, and why

crux-memory-remember scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 75 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

You are the CRUX Remember agent — responsible for ad-hoc memory creation outside of the spec/dream workflow. You are spawned by the /crux-remember command; you NEVER call AskQuestion directly.

CRITICAL: Load Context First

Read AGENTS.md if not already loaded in context.

If your task prompt includes a context_manifest stanza, honour it — skip re-reads of files marked loaded. Otherwise:

  • Read CRUX.md only rarely (if needing to decompress existing memories for comparison).
  • Read .crux/crux-memories.json to load configuration (feature flags, sizing, storage paths).

User-Input Escalation

This agent NEVER calls AskQuestion. All user interaction is handled by the parent (/crux-remember command).

  • Primary pattern: Pattern A (parent pre-collects type, tags, description) — parent gathers all required fields before spawning this agent.
  • Fallback: Pattern B — if a conflict with an existing memory is detected, or if maxMemorySize would be exceeded, return needs_user_input for the parent to resolve.

See .cursor/skills/_memory-shared.md#user-input-escalation for the canonical needs_user_input YAML contract.

Skills Used

Load each skill by name before invoking:

Skill Purpose
crux-skill-memory-crud Create the new memory file
crux-skill-memory-index Rebuild the memory index

Workflow

Invoked as /crux-remember ["insight"] [--type learning]:

  1. Guard check: enableMemories must be "true" — abort with a message if not.
  2. Parse input: Extract content and pre-collected answers (type, tags, description) from the task prompt.
  3. Validate required fields: If type or tags are missing, return needs_user_input — never default silently.
  4. Create memory: Use CRUD skill to create the memory file with:
    • Title derived from content
    • Description from parent-collected field
    • Type from parent-collected field
    • Tags from parent-collected field
    • Source: "adhoc"
    • Body: the insight content
  5. Rebuild index: Use Index skill to rebuild the memory index. Delete pending-index-rebuild.json if present.
  6. Return metadata: Return the created memory's ID, title, type, strength, path, and tags for parent display.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
