A command definition for scaffolding a new coding-agent skill. It describes how to validate a kebab-case name, create the skill files, collect its category and description, and update documentation.

In plain words
What is it for?
It is for starting a new skill, creating its SKILL.md and README.md files, validating that the name is available, and documenting how to install and use it.
Why use it?
It provides a repeatable checklist for creating a skill with the expected files, metadata, instructions, and installation guidance.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00015 $0.00625
Opus 5 $0.00008 $0.00313
Sonnet 5 $0.00003 $0.00125
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00063

Measured 7d ago against content hash 7022736fbe94, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

add-skill scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 7d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 114 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Add Skill

Scaffold a new skill named $ARGUMENTS.

Workflow

1. Validate Input

  • Check $ARGUMENTS is kebab-case (^[a-z0-9]+(-[a-z0-9]+)*$). Stop with error if not.
  • Check skills/$ARGUMENTS/ does not already exist. Stop with error if it does.

2. Create Directory Structure

skills/<name>/
├── SKILL.md
└── README.md

3. Write SKILL.md

---
name: <name>
version: 0.0.1
category: TODO
description: "TODO — one sentence describing what this skill does and when to trigger it."
argument-hint: "<argument>"
---

## Instructions

TODO

4. Ask User

Use AskUserQuestion:

  1. Category — one of: development, design-frontend, productivity, integrations, media
  2. Description — one sentence for the skill description

Update SKILL.md frontmatter with the user's answers.

5. Write README.md

Create skills/<name>/README.md with this structure:

# <name>

<description from step 4>

## When to use

- TODO

## Usage

/skill-name

## Installation

### Claude Code

```bash
claude plugin marketplace add 2ykwang/agent-skills
claude plugin install <name>@2ykwang-agent-skills
npx skills
npx skills add 2ykwang/agent-skills --skill <name>
### 6. Generate Plugins
Run `python3 scripts/generate_plugins.py`. This generates:
- `plugins/<name>/` directory with plugin.json, README.md, and copied skills
- Updated `.claude-plugin/marketplace.json`
### 7. Update README.md Skills Table
Find the table between the two `---` separators. Append 3-row block before the closing `---`:
```markdown
| [<name>](skills/<name>) | <description> |
| | `npx skills add 2ykwang/agent-skills --skill <name>` |
| | `claude plugin install <name>@2ykwang-agent-skills` |

8. Validate and Report

Run python3 scripts/validate.py. Show output.

Print summary:

Created skills/<name>/

Next steps:
  1. Edit skills/<name>/SKILL.md — replace TODOs
  2. Edit skills/<name>/README.md — add "When to use" and "Usage" examples
  3. just generate && just validate

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

add-skill is a command published in the GitHub repository 2ykwang/agent-skills (19 stars, last pushed 1mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 15 tokens to every session and 625 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings.
