search

search is a command for coding agents from adamthewilliam/grepika. It costs 42 tokens per session (349 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A code-search command that combines text search, regular-expression search, and relevance ranking. It searches a project's files and returns matching paths, scores, and excerpts.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to look for symbols, phrases, patterns, or other code in a repository. You can use the default combined search or explicitly choose full-text or regular-expression search.
Why use it?
It helps you find relevant code without reading every file or sorting through a long unranked list of matches. Different search modes let you choose exact text, patterns, or a combined search.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00042 $0.00349
Opus 5 $0.00021 $0.00175
Sonnet 5 $0.00008 $0.00070
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00035

Measured 5d ago against content hash 58ec30443a54, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

search scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 5d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Search the codebase using grepika.

Arguments

$ARGUMENTS

Behavior

  • If arguments contain "fts:" prefix: use mode: "fts" with the rest as query
  • If arguments contain "grep:" prefix: use mode: "grep" with the rest as query
  • Otherwise: use mode: "combined" (default) with full arguments as query

Steps

  1. Call mcp__grepika__add_workspace with path set to the project root directory

  2. Call mcp__grepika__search with the query from $ARGUMENTS and limit: 20

  3. Report results in this exact format:

    Search Results: [query]

    # File Score Snippet
1 path 0.95 matching line preview

    [N] results | mode: [mode] | [has_more: true/false]

Important

  • Do NOT use a sub-agent. Call the MCP tools directly in the main conversation.
  • Be concise. No extra explanation needed beyond the table.
  • If search returns empty results, suggest running /index first.
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

search is a command published in the GitHub repository adamthewilliam/grepika (134 stars, last pushed 23d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 42 tokens to every session and 349 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
