init

init is a command for Claude Code from ai-sdlc-framework/ai-sdlc. It costs 46 tokens per session (480 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A setup command that creates the configuration files required by this AI software development workflow from one manifest, which is a central list of required entries. It can ask for missing values, record a configuration version, and leave existing entries alone when run again.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to initialize signing-key, review-policy, reviewer, agent-role, and pipeline configuration, including non-interactive setup where supported.
Why use it?
It avoids creating each configuration file by hand and keeps setup aligned with what the workflow checks. Re-running it adds newly required entries without replacing existing ones unless forced.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00046 $0.00480
Opus 5.5 $0.00018 $0.00192
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00009 $0.00096
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00048

Security

Grade A, and why

init scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured today.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Scaffold the required consumer configuration. The list of required files lives in one manifest (pipeline-cli/src/config-manifest/manifest.ts); the same list drives the /ai-sdlc execute Step 1 preflight, ai-sdlc doctor and the SessionStart config-version notice, so what init creates is exactly what those check (AISDLC-910).

Behavior

  1. Creates every manifest entry that does not exist yet. Entries that need your input (the signing keyring, the pipeline provider) are prompted for; --non-interactive takes defaults (git remote, git email, ~/.ai-sdlc/signing-key.pub.pem) or fails naming the entries it could not fill.
  2. Generating your signing key is a step of init: run /ai-sdlc init-signing-key first, then init reads the public key it wrote.
  3. Records configVersion in .ai-sdlc/config-version.yaml.
  4. Re-running is a no-op for entries that exist (without --force). After a plugin update adds a required entry, re-running prompts only for that entry.

Run

PLUGIN_SCRIPTS_DIR="${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT:+$CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT/scripts}"
PLUGIN_SCRIPTS_DIR="${PLUGIN_SCRIPTS_DIR:-$(pwd)/ai-sdlc-plugin/scripts}"
PIPELINE_CLI_BIN="$(bash "$PLUGIN_SCRIPTS_DIR/resolve-pipeline-cli.sh")" || exit 1
node "$PIPELINE_CLI_BIN/cli-init.mjs" $ARGUMENTS

Commit the created files on a branch and merge them through a reviewed PR: the verifier reads the keyring and review policy from the base branch.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

init is a command published in the GitHub repository ai-sdlc-framework/ai-sdlc (415 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 46 tokens to every session and 480 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-16.
