quench-init

quench-init is a command for coding agents from alfredjeanlab/quench. It costs 0 tokens per session (468 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A project-initialization command that creates Quench configuration and adds settings for detected or selected languages and agents.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to start Quench in Rust, Go, JavaScript, shell, or agent-focused projects, including projects that use more than one supported profile.
Why use it?
It avoids writing the initial configuration by hand and can identify languages from files such as Cargo.toml, go.mod, or package.json.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00000 $0.00468
Opus 5 $0.00000 $0.00234
Sonnet 5 $0.00000 $0.00094
Haiku 4.5 $0.00000 $0.00047

Measured 5d ago against content hash 765249469798, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-05, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

quench-init scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 5d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

quench init

Initialize quench configuration for a project.

Default Output

Base config generated for all projects: templates/init.default.toml

Language and agent profile sections are appended based on detection or explicitly from --with.

--with Flag

Explicitly specify profiles, skipping auto-detection:

quench init --with rust # Rust only
quench init --with rust,shell # Multiple languages
quench init --with claude # Agent only
quench init --with rust,claude # Language + agent

Profiles are comma-separated. Combining languages and agents configures both.

Language Detection

Auto-detect languages from project root markers:

Language Marker Files
rust Cargo.toml
golang go.mod
javascript package.json, tsconfig.json, jsconfig.json
shell *.sh in root, bin/, or scripts/

Detection is additive: a project with Cargo.toml and scripts/*.sh detects both rust and shell.

When a language is detected, its section is appended. Example for Rust:

# Supported Languages:
# [rust], [golang], [javascript], [shell]

[rust]
rust.cloc.check = "error"
rust.policy.check = "error"
rust.suppress.check = "comment"

When --with is specified, language detection is skipped and only the specified profiles are used.

Agent Detection

Auto-detect agent files from project root:

Agent Marker Files
claude CLAUDE.md
cursor .cursorrules, .cursor/rules/*.md[c]

Both language and agent detection run by default. When --with is specified, all auto-detection is skipped.

When an agent is detected, the [check.agents] section is updated. Example for Claude:

[check.agents]
check = "error"
required = ["CLAUDE.md"]
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

quench-init is a command published in the GitHub repository alfredjeanlab/quench (2 stars, last pushed 4mo ago), licensed MIT. It costs nothing until one of its globs matches a file; then it loads 468 tokens. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
