speckit-companion: Command for Claude Code

.claude/commands/install-local.md

install-local is a command for Claude Code from alfredoperez/speckit-companion. It costs 15 tokens per session (852 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A local install command for a project that contains two extensions: one for VS Code and one for SpecKit, a specification-driven development toolkit. It raises their versions and installs both so local changes are used.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it after changing either extension, so the updated VS Code package and SpecKit commands or scripts are installed locally.
Why use it?
It prevents VS Code from ignoring a reinstall when the new version is not higher than one already installed. It also keeps both extensions in sync during local development.

This is alfredoperez/speckit-companion's own configuration. It tells Claude Code how to work on speckit-companion itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything speckit-companion configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00015 $0.00852
Opus 5 $0.00008 $0.00426
Sonnet 5 $0.00003 $0.00170
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00085

Security

Grade A, and why

install-local scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 11d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Context

  • Current version: !node -p "require('./package.json').version"

Your task

This repo ships two extensions: the VS Code extension (.vsix) and the spec-kit extension (speckit-extension/ — the /speckit.companion.* commands + capture scripts). Reinstall both so local changes to either are picked up.

1. VS Code extension

  1. Bump to one patch above both the repo version AND the highest already-installed version. Throwaway local installs accumulate in ~/.vscode/extensions/ at versions above the git baseline (each /install-local bump is restored in git but the installed .vsix stays), so a plain npm version patch from the baseline can produce a version ≤ what's installed → VS Code sees nothing newer and shows no reload banner. Compute a safe target instead:

    INSTALLED=$(ls -d ~/.vscode/extensions/alfredoperez.speckit-companion-* 2>/dev/null \
      | sed -E 's/.*-([0-9]+\.[0-9]+\.[0-9]+)$/\1/' | sort -V | tail -1)
    REPO=$(node -p "require('./package.json').version")
    BASE=$(printf '%s\n%s\n' "$INSTALLED" "$REPO" | sort -V | tail -1)
    NEXT=$(node -e "const [a,b,c]=process.argv[1].split('.').map(Number);console.log([a,b,c+1].join('.'))" "$BASE")
    npm version "$NEXT" --no-git-tag-version

  2. Package the extension: npm run package

  3. Install in VS Code: code --install-extension speckit-companion-{version}.vsix --force

  4. Reload: the new-higher version makes VS Code surface a "Restart Extensions / Reload" banner. code --command workbench.action.reloadWindow is NOT a supported CLI flag in current builds (it warns and no-ops) — don't rely on it; tell the user to click the banner or run Developer: Reload Window if it doesn't appear.

Important: Never skip the version bump, and never bump below an installed version — VS Code caches by version number, so same-or-lower = no update and no banner. After installing, restore the throwaway bump in git (git restore package.json package-lock.json) so it never lands in a feature commit. Restoring .specify/ alongside it is safe for living specs — capabilities live in living-specs.yml at the repo root, outside that folder.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
