api-design

api-design is a command for Claude Code from Amey-Thakur/AI-SKILLS. It costs 24 tokens per session (393 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A command that turns requirements into a REST or GraphQL API design, including resources, requests, responses, errors, and shared rules.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to design REST endpoints or a GraphQL schema, model related entities, and provide example request and response shapes. It also covers structured errors, authentication, filtering, sorting, versioning, pagination, and safe retries.
Why use it?
It helps avoid inconsistent URLs, status codes, data shapes, authentication choices, and pagination decisions. It also explains how to represent actions as resources instead of putting verbs in REST paths.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00024 $0.00393
Opus 5 $0.00012 $0.00197
Sonnet 5 $0.00005 $0.00079
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00039

Security

Grade A, and why

api-design scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 10d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

You were invoked as a slash command. The user's input:

$ARGUMENTS

Use that input to fill this prompt's variables (take the main content, topic, or task from it; ask only if a required value is missing and not supplied), then follow the prompt exactly.

Design an API for: {requirements}

Style and constraints: {style}

Produce:

  1. The resources/entities and how they relate, modeled from the domain.
  2. The endpoints (REST) or schema (GraphQL): for REST, resource-based paths, the right HTTP methods, and correct status codes (200/201/204, 400/401/403/ 404/409/422/429); for GraphQL, the types, queries, mutations, and how pagination works. Turn actions into resources rather than RPC-style verbs in URLs.
  3. Request and response shapes for the key operations, with an example each.
  4. The consistent error response shape (a structured, machine-readable error with a stable code and a message; see problem+json), and how errors signal retryability.
  5. Cross-cutting decisions: authentication, pagination (cursor over offset for large lists), filtering/sorting conventions, versioning approach, and idempotency for unsafe operations.

Rules: design for the consumer's ergonomics, not your database schema (the API is a contract, not a table dump). Consistent conventions across all endpoints. Correct, predictable status codes clients can branch on. Evolve additively (new optional fields safe; breaking changes get a version). Validate input at the boundary. Flag anywhere the requirements are ambiguous enough to change the design, and state your assumptions.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

api-design is a command published in the GitHub repository Amey-Thakur/AI-SKILLS (7 stars, last pushed 4d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 24 tokens to every session and 393 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
