maven-tools-mcp: Command for GitHub Copilot

.github/prompts/dependency-audit.prompt.md

Dependency Audit is a command for GitHub Copilot from arvindand/maven-tools-mcp. It costs 16 tokens per session (434 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A Maven and Gradle dependency audit for Java projects. It checks dependency health, available versions, known security vulnerabilities, and software licenses.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to review a project's dependencies, identify safe and major-version upgrades, and prepare a security or license report.
Why use it?
It helps find outdated libraries, known CVEs, and license restrictions before they create maintenance or compliance problems.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00016 $0.00434
Opus 5.5 $0.00006 $0.00174
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00003 $0.00087
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00043

Security

Grade A, and why

Dependency Audit scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Dependency Audit

Perform a comprehensive dependency audit for this project using the maven-tools-mcp MCP server.

Instructions

  1. Identify Dependencies

    • Scan pom.xml (Maven) or build.gradle/build.gradle.kts (Gradle)
    • Extract all dependency coordinates (groupId:artifactId format)
  2. Health Analysis

    • Use analyze_project_health with includeSecurityScan=true and includeLicenseScan=true
    • Assess per-dependency healthScore values and the age distribution
    • Label any calculated average as client-derived; the response has no average_health_score field
    • Identify stale or aging dependencies
  3. Version Check

    • Use compare_dependency_versions with includeSecurityScan=true and stabilityFilter=STABLE_ONLY
    • Classify updates as safe-now (patch/minor/same-major fallback) vs manual-review (major)
    • If same_major_stable_fallback is present, treat it as the conservative near-term target and keep the major path separate
  4. Security Scan

    • Review CVE vulnerabilities from OSV.dev integration
    • Flag critical and high severity issues
  5. License Review

    • Check license compliance (permissive vs copyleft)
    • Identify any licenses requiring legal review

Report Format

Executive Summary

  • Mean dependency health score: X/100 (calculated from successful dependency results)
  • Risk level: [low/medium/high/critical]
  • Total dependencies: X
  • Updates available: X

Immediate Attention Required

List dependencies with security vulnerabilities or end-of-life status.

Recommended Upgrades

Prioritized list of upgrades sorted by risk and importance.

  • Separate safe-now upgrades from major migration paths
  • If a same-major fallback exists, show it as the immediate recommendation and keep the major target as a later option

License Compliance

Summary of license types and any compliance concerns.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
