provider-priority

provider-priority is a command for coding agents from AttendantLion8/provider-fallback-plugin. It costs 13 tokens per session (809 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A command for arranging model providers, such as Anthropic, AWS Bedrock, and Google Vertex AI, in a preferred order.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to view usage, set or change provider order, and add or remove providers from automatic fallback.
Why use it?
It lets work move to the next provider when the current provider reaches its usage limit, without changing the provider's stored configuration.

Command

Installs and runs on its own, but its text points at files inside the plugin that ships it — anything it tells you to read at a ${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT} path is only there once the plugin is installed.

Getting it into your agent

One page per mod, every tool's command on it. A separate URL per tool would split the same page into five that compete with each other.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00013 $0.00809
Opus 5 $0.00006 $0.00404
Sonnet 5 $0.00003 $0.00162
Haiku 4.5 $0.00001 $0.00081

Measured 4d ago against content hash 058c6b63aadc, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

provider-priority scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Provider Priority Management

Manage the priority order for model providers. When usage limits are reached on one provider, automatically switch to the next provider in the priority list.

Actions

Show Current Priority (/provider-priority show or just /provider-priority)

Display the current provider priority order along with usage status.

Set Priority Order (/provider-priority set <providers>)

Set the complete priority order. Providers should be comma-separated.

Example: /provider-priority set anthropic,bedrock,vertex

Add Provider (/provider-priority add <provider> [position])

Add a provider to the priority list at a specific position (default: end).

Remove Provider (/provider-priority remove <provider>)

Remove a provider from the priority list (does not delete configuration).

Move Provider (/provider-priority move <provider> <position>)

Move a provider to a new position in the priority list.

Available Providers

Provider Description Environment Variable
anthropic Anthropic Direct API ANTHROPIC_API_KEY
bedrock AWS Bedrock AWS_ACCESS_KEY_ID
vertex Google Vertex AI GOOGLE_APPLICATION_CREDENTIALS
openrouter OpenRouter OPENROUTER_API_KEY

Implementation

When this command is invoked:

  1. Parse the action and arguments
  2. Load current configuration from ~/.opencode/provider-fallback/config.json
  3. Execute the requested action
  4. Save updated configuration
  5. Display the result with usage statistics

console.log('Auto-switch:', status.autoSwitch ? 'Enabled' : 'Disabled');
console.log('\n=== Provider Status ===\n');

for (const [id, provider] of Object.entries(status.providers)) {
  console.log(`${provider.priority}. ${provider.name} (${id})`);
  console.log(`   Configured: ${provider.configured ? '✓' : '✗'}`);
  console.log(`   Daily: ${provider.usage.daily}`);

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
