claude-sdk-rs: Command for Claude Code

.claude/commands/assess.md

assess is a command for Claude Code from bredmond1019/claude-sdk-rs. It costs 0 tokens per session (2,827 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

An assessment command that sends several investigators through an existing codebase and combines their findings into one checked report. It is the first stage before identifying boundaries, ordering work, and making a plan.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to investigate a topic, choose the areas and depth to inspect, and produce a dated assessment file. You can resume an incomplete assessment or skip checking only for a temporary look.
Why use it?
It turns an unfamiliar system into documented evidence before planning begins. Independent checking reduces the chance that a plan is based on one incomplete reading of the code.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00000 $0.02827
Opus 5.5 $0.00000 $0.01131
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00000 $0.00565
Haiku 4.5 $0.00000 $0.00283

Measured 11d ago against content hash 00c67dfc7e4b, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-10-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

assess scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 11d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 241 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Assess — Fan out recon agents over an existing codebase and produce a verified assessment.

Stage 1 of the pre-plan pipeline: /assess → /seams → /sequence → /plan. Method: docs/how-to-plan-with-agents.md in the brain repo.

Variables

$ARGUMENTS — the assessment topic, plus optional flags. Example: "autonomous multi-repo orchestration --slug orchestration-extensions"

Flag What it does
--slug <name> Output directory planning/<name>/. Default: kebab-case of the topic
--areas "a; b; c" Name the recon areas explicitly instead of deriving them
--depth quick|standard|deep 3 / 5–6 / 8+ scouts. Default standard
--no-verify Skip the verification pass. Only for a throwaway look — never before /plan
--resume Re-read an existing assessment.md and run only the stages that are missing

Purpose

Turn "I want to understand this system well enough to plan work on it" into one dated, cited, independently re-checked artifact — planning/<slug>/assessment.md — that a later session can plan from without re-deriving anything.

This command produces evidence, not a plan. It may not propose a sequence, a wave, a block, or an estimate. Those are /seams and /sequence.

Scope. One coherent question about one system (possibly spanning repos). If you cannot state the question in a sentence, you have two assessments.

Instructions

  1. If $ARGUMENTS is empty, stop and ask what to assess.

  2. Frame the question. Restate the topic as one sentence and 3–8 numbered questions the assessment must answer. Show them to the user and proceed — these become the scout briefs and the section headings, so a vague question here produces a vague dossier.

    • Plan-quality floor. If framing the question requires inventing a load-bearing fact about intent (what "done" means, which repos are in scope, what the operator actually wants), STOP and ask 2–4 targeted questions. Do not guess the objective.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

assess is a command published in the GitHub repository bredmond1019/claude-sdk-rs (23 stars, last pushed 1mo ago), licensed Apache-2.0. It costs nothing until one of its globs matches a file; then it loads 2,827 tokens. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-26.
