.claude/commands/session-recap.md

session-recap is a command for Claude Code from bredmond1019/claude-sdk-rs. It costs 0 tokens per session (1,150 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A session briefing command that reads recent log entries, the current status file, and an optional handoff note. It summarizes what happened, where work stopped, and the next command to run.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it before continuing work to review recent changes, decisions, unfinished tasks, and any active handoff.
Why use it?
It reduces the time spent reconstructing context at the start of a coding session.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00000 $0.01150
Opus 5.5 $0.00000 $0.00460
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00000 $0.00230
Haiku 4.5 $0.00000 $0.00115

Security

Grade A, and why

session-recap scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 11d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 96 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Session Recap — Summarize recent work and current standing before starting a session.

Reads the most recent Log entries and status.md to produce a tight briefing: what was completed recently, where work left off, and the exact next command to run. Use this at the start of a coding session before doing anything else.

Instructions

  1. Check for an active handoff: ls planning/handoff.md 2>/dev/null.

    • If the file exists, read it and lead the briefing with an Active Handoff section:
      ## Active Handoff — <title from handoff.md>
      <What's in flight and why.>
Remaining: <bullet list from "Remaining work">
First command: `<command from "First command after /prime">`
      > Delete `planning/handoff.md` once this session has consumed it.

    • If absent, skip silently and proceed to step 1.
  2. Read log.md. Focus on the three most recent entries (identified by ## YYYY-MM-DD headings). Extract: what was built or changed, any decisions made, and any explicit "left off at" or "next step" notes the author wrote.

  3. Read planning/status.md. Extract:

    • Current focus block
    • Which blocks are In progress, Done, and Not started (status is title-case in status.md; tolerate lowercase variants if present)
    • Last updated date
  4. If a task spec exists for the current focus block at planning/<name>/tasks.md, read it. Identify:

    • Which steps are marked done (have [done] prefix)
    • Which steps remain
    • Any notes in the ## Notes section
  5. Check planning/<name>/sdlc/reports/ for any existing pipeline reports for the current block (e.g. implement.md, task3-test.md). Note which pipeline steps have been completed (have a report file) and which haven't.

  6. Read planning/state.json if present. Extract any active carryover[] entries (those whose clears_when is unresolved) — durable constraints, known-issues, env caveats, and deferred follow-ons. Skip silently if the file or array is absent.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
