docs-generate

docs-generate is a command for coding agents from C0ntr0lledCha0s/claude-code-plugin-automations. It costs 12 tokens per session (562 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A command that writes documentation for a selected file, function, class, or module. It can create API comments, docstrings, module documentation, or a README based on the code it examines.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to generate JSDoc or TSDoc, Python docstrings, Go or Rust comments, README files, module overviews, and API documentation.
Why use it?
It turns code structure into written explanations and reduces the effort needed to document parameters, return values, usage, and errors.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00012 $0.00562
Opus 5 $0.00006 $0.00281
Sonnet 5 $0.00002 $0.00112
Haiku 4.5 $0.00001 $0.00056

Measured 5d ago against content hash 3314ebda7e60, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

docs-generate scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 5d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Documentation Generator

Generate documentation for the specified target.

Target: $ARGUMENTS

Parsing Arguments

Parse the arguments to determine:

  1. File path: Required - the file or directory to document
  2. Type flag: Optional - --type api, --type readme, or --type module
    • api: Generate API documentation (JSDoc, docstrings, etc.)
    • readme: Generate a README file for the module/directory
    • module: Generate module-level documentation
    • Default: Infer from context

Generation Process

For API Documentation (--type api)

  1. Read the target file
  2. Identify all functions, classes, and exported items
  3. Analyze the code to understand:
    • Parameter types and purposes
    • Return values
    • Side effects
    • Error conditions
  4. Generate appropriate documentation:
    • JSDoc for JavaScript/TypeScript
    • Docstrings for Python
    • Doc comments for Go/Rust
  5. Insert or update documentation in the file

For README Generation (--type readme)

  1. Analyze the directory/module structure
  2. Identify key files and exports
  3. Generate a README with:
    • Title and description
    • Installation instructions (if applicable)
    • Usage examples
    • API overview
    • Configuration options

For Module Documentation (--type module)

  1. Read all files in the module
  2. Create module-level documentation
  3. Document exports and public interface
  4. Add usage examples

Documentation Standards

Follow language-specific conventions:

JavaScript/TypeScript

/**
 * Brief description.
 *
 * @param {Type} name - Description
 * @returns {Type} Description
 * @throws {Error} When...
 * @example
 * const result = func(arg);
 */

Python

"""Brief description.

Longer description if needed.

Args:
    param: Description

Returns:
    Description

Raises:
    Error: When...

Example:
    >>> result = func(arg)
"""

Output

  • For API docs: Edit the file in place with new documentation
  • For README: Create or update README.md in the target directory
  • For module docs: Create or update module documentation file

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

docs-generate is a command published in the GitHub repository C0ntr0lledCha0s/claude-code-plugin-automations (3 stars, last pushed 6mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 12 tokens to every session and 562 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
