console

console is a command for Claude Code from CharlesWiltgen/Axiom. It costs 18 tokens per session (348 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A command for capturing logs from an iOS app running in the Simulator. It combines ordinary print output with Apple's structured logging system and returns structured JSON.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to launch an installed simulator app, capture its logs for a set time or number of lines, filter warnings and errors, and save the results.
Why use it?
It brings different kinds of simulator messages into one output, making errors and crashes easier to find.

About the project

Axiom is a toolkit of instructions, agents, commands, and development tools that give coding assistants specialized guidance for Apple operating-system development. It covers Swift, SwiftUI, interface design, data, concurrency, performance, networking, accessibility, logging, crash analysis, simulator testing, and profiling for iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, and tvOS. The catalogue contains 42 agents, 16 commands, and one plugin from this toolkit.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00018 $0.00348
Opus 5 $0.00009 $0.00174
Sonnet 5 $0.00004 $0.00070
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00035

Security

Grade A, and why

console scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 5d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Capture Simulator Console

Captures iOS simulator console output using xclog, combining print/debugPrint (stdout/stderr) with os_log/Logger into structured JSON.

Steps

  1. Read .axiom/preferences.yaml — if it exists and has a simulator section, use saved device, deviceUDID, and bundleId. If the file exists but is malformed, skip and fall back to discovery
  2. If no saved preferences, run xclog list to discover installed apps
  3. Ask the user which app to capture (or use the saved/specified one)
  4. Run xclog launch <bundle-id> --timeout 30s --max-lines 200
  5. Present the captured output, highlighting errors and faults
  6. If the device or bundle ID changed from saved preferences, save to .axiom/preferences.yaml (see axiom-tools (skills/xclog-ref.md) skill for write instructions)

Usage Tips

  • Use --filter "error|warning" to focus on problems
  • Use --subsystem <name> to filter by the app's logging subsystem
  • Use --timeout 60s for longer capture sessions
  • Pipe through jq 'select(.level == "error")' to extract only errors
  • Use --output /tmp/console.log to save for later analysis

See the axiom-tools (skills/xclog-ref.md) skill for complete documentation.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

console is a command published in the GitHub repository CharlesWiltgen/Axiom (1,146 stars, last pushed 7d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 18 tokens to every session and 348 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
