assay-inventory

assay-inventory is a command for coding agents from chawdamrunal/assay. It costs 20 tokens per session (223 once invoked), scanned B, original, Apache-2.0.

A security-scanning server for Claude Code plugins and MCP servers. MCP is a standard way for an AI assistant to connect to external tools and data.

In plain words
What is it for?
Listing and reading files, searching their contents, starting scans, recording findings, and producing a final scan verdict.
Why use it?
It helps inspect add-ons for security issues and record evidence-backed findings instead of relying only on manual review.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00020 $0.00223
Opus 5 $0.00010 $0.00112
Sonnet 5 $0.00004 $0.00045
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00022

Security

Grade B, and why

assay-inventory scanned grade B with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 5d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

What it actually says

/assay-inventory

Enumerate everything on the local machine that Assay can scan.

Usage

/assay-inventory

What this command does

Runs assay inventory. The output is a table with one row per detected item:

  • Claude Code plugins — directories under ~/.claude/plugins/ with a plugin.json
  • MCP servers — entries under mcpServers in ~/.claude/settings.json
  • Hooks — every PreToolUse, PostToolUse, UserPromptSubmit, etc.
  • Settings overridespermissions.allow / permissions.deny grants

For each item, the table shows name, kind, version (if declared), and source URL (if declared).

This is the input source for /assay-scan: you can pick a target by name from the inventory.

Execute:

assay inventory
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

assay-inventory is a command published in the GitHub repository chawdamrunal/assay (4 stars, last pushed 1mo ago), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 20 tokens to every session and 223 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it B with 1 finding (reads agent configuration directories). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
