contextweaver: Command for GitHub Copilot

.github/prompts/refactor-module.prompt.md

refactor-module is a command for GitHub Copilot from dgenio/contextweaver. It costs 17 tokens per session (572 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A step-by-step procedure for splitting an oversized Python module into smaller modules without changing its behavior.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when a non-exempt module exceeds the project's 300-line guideline. It helps identify a self-contained unit, create the new module, and preserve the documented rules.
Why use it?
It makes structural cleanup more controlled by checking size, dependencies, project invariants, type hints, and documentation requirements before extraction.

Command for GitHub Copilot

Written for GitHub Copilot: a Copilot chat mode or prompt. Also seen: mentions AGENTS.md.

This is dgenio/contextweaver's own configuration. It tells GitHub Copilot how to work on contextweaver itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything contextweaver configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00017 $0.00572
Opus 5.5 $0.00007 $0.00229
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00003 $0.00114
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00057

Security

Grade A, and why

refactor-module scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Refactor a Module

Follow these steps in order. No behavior changes allowed — structural cleanup only.

Steps

  1. Confirm the module exceeds the size guideline. Run wc -l src/contextweaver/<module>.py. Exempt modules: types.py, envelope.py, __main__.py. Success: non-exempt file >300 lines.

  2. Identify a cohesive unit to extract. Group related functions or classes with no circular dependencies on the remainder. Consult docs/agent-context/invariants.md — do not split invariant-coupled stages (e.g., dependency_closure). Success: extracted unit is clearly bounded.

  3. Create the new module. Start with from __future__ import annotations. Add type hints and Google-style docstrings on all public APIs. No business logic in __init__.py. Success: new file created; make lint && make type pass.

  4. Move code and update all imports. Remove moved code from the source module. Search for all references: grep -r "<symbol>" src/ tests/ examples/ and update each import site. Success: no ImportError; make type passes.

  5. Update __init__.py re-exports. Keep any previously-public symbol re-exported from the same package path. Success: public API is unchanged.

  6. Run make ci — no behavior changes allowed.

    make ci

Success: all targets (fmt lint type test example demo) exit 0.

  7. Verify both modules satisfy the size guideline. Run wc -l src/contextweaver/<source>.py src/contextweaver/<extracted>.py. Success: both files are ≤300 lines (or are exempt).

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
