add-error-handling

add-error-handling is a command for Cursor from emaraschio/cursor-commands. It costs 13 tokens per session (413 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A workflow for adding consistent handling of failures to selected code. It follows project instructions and requires errors to be handled meaningfully, logged, or passed on rather than hidden.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to improve error handling at meaningful recovery or reporting boundaries in a targeted part of a codebase.
Why use it?
It prevents silent failures, data loss, and difficult debugging while avoiding unnecessary error-catching around every operation.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00013 $0.00413
Opus 5 $0.00006 $0.00206
Sonnet 5 $0.00003 $0.00083
Haiku 4.5 $0.00001 $0.00041

Security

Grade A, and why

add-error-handling scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 5d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Overview

Add consistent error handling to the targeted code. Full workflow: .cursor/skill-contracts/add-error-handling/SKILL.md (user install: ~/.cursor/skill-contracts/add-error-handling/SKILL.md).

Defaults

None. See skill for workflow defaults.

Steps

  1. Read .cursor/skill-contracts/add-error-handling/SKILL.md for the full agent contract; if that file is missing, read ~/.cursor/skill-contracts/add-error-handling/SKILL.md.
  2. Execute the workflow in order; do not skip safety steps.
  3. Report outcomes per skill (summary, tables, or checklist as specified).

Anti-patterns

  • Never swallow an error silently. Trigger: catching an exception you cannot fully handle. Wrong: an empty catch block, or one that hides the failure with no log or rethrow. Correct: handle it meaningfully, or log and rethrow so the failure stays visible. Reason: swallowed errors turn real failures into silent data loss and undebuggable behavior.
  • Do not wrap everything in try/catch. Trigger: deciding where to add error handling. Wrong: blanket try/catch on every call and layer regardless of risk. Correct: handle errors at meaningful boundaries where you can recover or report. Reason: excessive handling buries the happy path and masks where failures truly originate.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
